Fellow Modelers:

I am starting a new layout and will be using NCE DCC.  I would like you input on which tack is best suited.

Tortoise Herding

It's time to install some switch machines in my layout. Not because anything is hard to reach or that the layout is large, but just because I want them. I've bought a herd of tortoises and am about halfway through the job. I thought it might be interesting to document my adventures here in hopes that others will share their experiences too.

Richlawn RR V2 - Track painting

While I'm waiting for Dave at Backdrop Junction to print my order for backdrops I wanted to make some kind of progress on the layout so I decided to do some track painting.  I don't have any special method, but just follow what I've seen here on MRH and in some books and magazines that I've read.  The only thing that I did was custom match the rail color to an actual photo of track.  My tie colors are a mixture of flat Testors colors.

Double track using Unitrack

Intending to lay Unitrack N gauge and use 315mm radius as the largest curve. There will be a double track section and on the curves I will use the 282mm curve on the inside. From one track to other I want to use #6 turnouts. But 2 say#6 LH wouldn't give the correct track centre. What is the answer to this? Hope you can understand my problem - no hobby shop within 400 miles to me

Update on BNML Layout Progress

Here is an update on my progress on the BNML. Morris to St Jean...

This diagram shows the area covered in this update.

All the tricky bits of benchwork seem to be located in this section. The outside corner is complicated by the fact that it crosses the descending ramp to staging, so clearances are tight. And I also built my first super elevated curve. Works good so far!
