Soldering rail joiners?
I tend to be of the school that solders power feeders to every track segment. Given this, what I'm curious what purpose is served by soldering rail joiners?
I understand that their are situations in curves where flex track ends may not want to follow the curve and soldering helps the track conform. That makes sense to me. But what other rationale would their be for soldering the joiners?
Thanks!

Updating My layout one spike at a time.
While I am not hand laying any rail, I am laying down track and one spike at a time seemed appropriate.
If you have been following my blogging you will know that after building my GE 85 ton steeple cabs, I need something for them to do. So I built a mine. Then I needed some place for them to take the rock, and well I didn't have any place.
Holding cars/trains on a grade
How do you guys hold cars or trains on a grade? I did check the archives and saw a couple of ideas using wire and paint brush bristles. So what has worked for you? I have a industrail siding that will need something to hold the cars so they don't roll out to the mainline and I have to hold a train on a grade while I do some switching. I don't want to loose that train as it will roll down the helix. Brian

Peco Electrofrog HO Turnouts in staging
I am concidering using Peco electrofrog turnouts in my staging yards.
Curved code 75 in an open staging yard and medium code 100 in a more or less hidden staging. Elswhere I am using different brands of code 70 and code 83 turnouts and track.
I want to hear about your experience with said turnouts. Not so much regarding the electricity issues, as I am well aware of that I have do tune them up to make them function well with DCC.
I want to hear about how these Peco turnouts function with US rolling stock.

Suggestions for fixing rail on switch? (pic)
Hello all, I've got a short, 2 inch section of rail on one of my Walthers/shinoharra switches where the rail has rolled towards the inside a bit which causes regular derails. (see picture) I'm not sure what has caused it. Maybe temp change?
Anyway, its location has me nervous about how to go about fixing it. Any advice would be helpful!

What is this Bachmann track section?
I found this in a bunch of old track from an estate sale. It is Bachmann but I don;t know what exactly this is supposed to be for with the small wheel and what look like signals perhaps?
Thanks,

Long Curved Track Installation
I'm nearing the end of a peninsula end with my mainline track and I'm coming up to the turnback curve. I've been pondering a couple installation questions. I've read through quite a few threads about putting in a long curved track but still don't quite have a handle on these items.
