Trackwork

Christmas Layout Examples with Lionel Fastracks

Hello all,

I decided to prepare several Christmas layouts in O gauge with free SCARM track planning software and to present them to the forum members. See the layouts here: Christmas Layouts in O-gauge Around the Xmas Tree

Richlawn RR V2 - Swing gate track part B - completed

I've been working on my swing gate for my railroad and finally finished the track portion.  This finishes the series of blog posts.  If you would like to follow from the beginning below are the links to the posts going from the most recent to the oldest:

finally got started

Finally got moving, slowly as it is.

The benchwork is modular, based on the Battleframe series of modular games table bases by Back 2 Base-ix, though if I was to try again I would NOT have a layout this small modular, with nothing to align the track but the flatness of the tabletop. The magnets used to connect these things are strong, but have this annoying tendency to not fit in the holes correctly. It would also reduce disconnection of track.

N scale turntable info needed

I recently purchased the Walthers round house kit # 107598 for my 2'x4' layout. I need to add a turntable. I've read that the Atlas ones are not compatable with this one. I don't plan on using DCC for my layout so one one those DCC compatible ones with the motor is not required. Has anyone used the Peco part # 552-1755 one? Would this one work? I would maybe make my own motor setup for it, and add a operators side shed to it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

PECO Sidemount Switch machine power

I am in the process of replacing some HO  Atlas remote switches with Peco code 100 in a staging area.

I installed the Peco side mount switch machines. I wired them per the instructions and discovered the switch would only work in one direction. I am using the previous momentary toggle switches used with the Atlas switches.

I talked with the supplier of the Peco switches and he said they need a 16v source putting a minimum of 2 amps to perform.

Richlawn RR V2 - Swing gate track installation part A

I've been putting off doing the trackwork on my swing gate because I've never done it before, but this weekend I bit the bullet and started the process.  Since all of my benchtop is 2" foam I have to add rigid supports for the track where it crosses the swing gate in order to insure proper track alignment.

Pembroke II: North Section Trackwork Complete

The track on the North Section is finally complete. The elapsed time was longer than the south section, but that was due to real life getting in the way of the trains. Overall, I think the effort was less for this section than the first. Compared to the south section, I made a couple of minor changes in approach.

Building a home for a GE 85 Ton Locomotive

Well the purpose of building two GE 85 Ton Locomotives was so I could run them in an open pit much like they did for HBMS Flin Flon and in the Bingham Canyon Pit Utah, if not in other places as well.
