Fascia Color - First post on returning to work on the layout

Hi all,

Just checking on what people use for fascia colors.   I originally was going to go with black for a theatrical vignette look.  However, a lot of the 'guys' on the proto-list have gone with a green(ala CTC panel green that Joe Atkinson uses)   Not a fan of that color however, so going with a bolder green.   Looking to match the original IC green diamond emblem color.   The attached picture looks a lot lighter than in person due to room lighting and flash, so assume a medium/slightly dark green.

Is it prototypical practice to pass industries?

Is it prototypical for a mixed consist train en route to a classification yard to pass customers that may be receiving some of those cars? Meaning would the railroad sort those cars for delivery in the yard first or would they know in advance that those cars need to be placed and just spot them where necessary? Here's why I ask:

Lighting for the Indiana Central

I've finally gotten to the point of determining my lighting needs and methods for my layout.  Several months ago I created a blog to share my work, which you are welcome to explore at the link below.  I haven't added to it much yet as I'm still in the room-prep stage, but I figure now is as good a time as any to start sharing my work and ideas with the rest of the community.

Realistic but simple and quick ground covering :)

Hi!

I made this tutorial about ground covering with turf, just to show a really fast and cheap method to cover large areas with a reasonable realistic result.
The resulting surface is still very suitable for later detailing.

Really learned a lot the last few days.

The last few days I have been asking a lot of questions and getting answers I don't always like but they are the hard truth from experience. I taught myself to stumble thru Xtrackcad so I can put my ideas in scale and it really changes the perspective of what will work and what won't. I am really enjoying the xtrackcad software but the learning curve is still steep. And looking for items in the para files is time consuming.

February - Electrical Fun

Super Bowl Weekend - Only had to go to work 3 hours on Saturday so had some time over the weekend and before the game to work on the Railroad. Got all the various parts for the electrical switch controls so was able to build & install 9 of them. Thought someone would get a kick out of the controlled chaos so I took some pictures. This is only a temporary install till I can put on the fascia.

Downtown Spur - N-Scale Micro Layout

Beside working on my room sized layout, I started a micro-layout project. The idea behind it is actually a contest entry more than having a second realm to play with.

Some of the progress photo made it to the WPF sections but here is a sum-up of some pictures :

Multi level/ grades and radius

So I have decided to build a two level layout. A single level in my 13 by 40 foot space just seems to not fit my goals. So I have some questions. First is typical space between levels. Backdrops typically are 18 to 24 inches high so I am guessing that is the starting point.

Cornhill & Atherton - The town of Atherton

Well it's February and I haven't done anything significant on the layout for a couple of months now, so it's time to get busy again.

The next project is Atherton. This is by far the biggest section so far and will also complete the top deck.

First - a distant view of the somewhat scary,  but equally exciting gap that needs filling. This shot taken from Atherton engine terminal with the overhead layout lights deliberately switched off to emphasize the target area:
