Beside working on my room sized layout, I started a micro-layout project. The idea behind it is actually a contest entry more than having a second realm to play with.

Some of the progress photo made it to the WPF sections but here is a sum-up of some pictures :

cheers,

Layout Overview : Visible

Layout Overview :

Visible part is only 43.5 cm x 17.5 cm. There are two spots, one on the north end - some sort of wholesale MFG with two boxcar spots and a team-track on the south side.

To be able to perform run around movements I connected two tracks on the left to the four-track staging transfer-table. A second two-track transfer-table is located on the right side of the layout.

Below are some photos I took during construction, starting with the very first mockup to get a feeling for the limited space available.

With the track arrangement in place I started the  construction of the two relief buildings.

Construction took several

Construction took several hours. I started building the layout-box back in December 2015 and crossed the finish-line on February 2016.

Almost everything way scratch built - except the track is ATLAS Code 55

And the layout made it finally out of the shop into our living room :

Well done

I like it a lot. i just started to wonder how much you were able to fit into such a small layout until I saw your N-Scale hint in the signature.

In the photos from the front you achieve a beautiful impression of ample space. Great work.

Very nice job

Great job on the scenery and construction. A series of these type scenes linked with hidden track would be a great way to build a larger layout.....DaveB

Thank you for your kind

Thank you for your kind words, Hagen.

Very impressed to read that it needs my signature to confirm that it is N-scale

As for an sectional layout where every box features a new scenery I would got to a larger footprint. The give one is bare minimum, concerning train length and switching space.

Awesome Job

Keep up the great work. What you did with such a small space is very impressive, I only hope I can do half as well. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome Job

Thank you for your kind words, mikerhea.

Even as I am blessed with a steady hand, it takes usually more than one attempt to get the final result.

I like what you have done and may replicate it in P:48 as a place to display and operate my collection of O scale standard gauge equipment. Could you post a dimensioned sketch of the track plan? I have sketched it out using your overall dimensions but it doesn't look right.

Thanks.

Looks like it's about 5.5 boxcars wide or 275 feet which would be about 1.72 feet in N scale or 5.72 feet ( call it 6 feet) in O scale? .........DaveB

Hi Bill,

I can not do this, because I have not set one up.

As posted on the entry text, the visible (inner) dimensions are  43.5 cm by 17.5 cm.

Let me try to get more data out of it :

(Looking birds-view photo)  The top track is 4 cm spaced from the backdrop. 2nd track is 6.5 cm from the backdrop. 3rd track is 3 cm from 2nd track.

Hope this helps ?

Thanks - those are the kind of dimensions I was arriving at. How long are the traverses on the ends? They appear to be about 9" on each side or one half the length of the visible area.

Bill, yes they are both half the length of the visible part. Not my idea, it was  required by the contest.
