MRH website outage from 6:30 am PDT to 9:30 am PDT

MRH website experienced an approximately 3 hour outage this morning. Our host provider had to perform emergency maintenance on our server, but we're back up now.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

MRH forum ettiquite - a little negative goes a long way

Every so often, we will post reminders to our audience of what's expected of you when you post here on the MRH website.

When posting something negative, a little bit goes a long way.

And above all else, refrain from getting personal. Posts like "John, you just don't have a clue" not only will make John mad at you and want to retaliate in a post, it also will likely cause others to start discounting your posts.

Here's a comment on this subject:

Lightning effects for night operations

I enjoy the atmosphere of night operations.  Though I haven't had a layout in many years, I often used to turn the layout room lights out, turn on the layout building and street lights, and run trains in the artificial late night ambiance.  I also enjoy sound effects, and would sometimes add a cassette recorder (anybody remember those?) with the sounds of a thunderstorm.

national train show and ???? about cog wheels for class one locomotives in N scale

trainshow Good afternoon Fellow Board Members,

Are any of you going to the national train show in

Grand Rapids, Michigan? I have heard a lot of minuses

from folks that wanted to set up and be vendors there BUT

I am asking as a visitor interested in the N Gauge suppliers

and vendors .It would be a considerable expense for me to travel there

with two days lodging as I would be traveling by Amtrak from Syracuse, New York

Tichy Train #8208 staircase and landings

Looks like a nice building detail but there are no instructions  or pictures of it assembled.

Can someone please share their building with platform and stairs installed?

Using Poly Fiber with Ground Foam for landscape

I did not come up with this idea, but saw it on another model railroader's layout and loved the way it looked.  Since Bruce emailed me and asked me what I used to cover the hillside I thought I would share with others in case someone else finds it useful.

I start with some black poly fiber material which you can get from one of MRH's sponsors, Micro-Mark at:
