Anyone ever try 3-tab shingles for pavement?
I saw an opened bundle of 3-tab roofing at the home supply store, with single sheets of roofing shingle on sale for less than two bucks. The top surface was course, but the underside was a speckled dark color, looking a lot like new pavement. The roofing material is flexible, and even cracks if crumpled, leaving a good pattern for aging pavement. Has anyone here ever used this stuff for roadways and parking lots?
Jasper CNR
I'm planning to be in Jasper Alberta very briefly next weekend (arrive 1600 Saturday on Via No2, leave 1430 Sunday for Vancouver on No 1). Anyone know of any interesting railfan sites within walking distance of the station?

Missing the weekend pictures!!
Joe, I understand the need to close a thread due to anything you do not wish on your forum. However, the weekend photo fun thread by Driline each week helps keep my sanity since I have had to temporarily move to Las Vegas and can't work on my railroad. I so look forward to seeing everyone's fantastic work. Could you have just eliminated the poor content and allowed this great weekly thread to survive?
Thank you so much for listening...

Commercial track tips
I've posted another track tip on by blog. These are just simple points and ideas that have come up as I've built my new layout over the last nine months. Check it out at this address: http://designbuildop.hansmanns.org/

Railfanning the Denver/Boulder/Fort COllins Corridor
Friends,
My professional travels will find me in Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins, CO for most of next week, flying in and out of Denver International. I'll have some spare time at different times during the trip, and so other then a return visit to Caboose Hobbies, I'm looking for railfanning opportunities.

Yard speakers used by the L&N
OK - I can't remember who posted a picture on this website of a yard with a speaker, but I found my picture of an L&N yard with old #2500 sitting right next to a speaker. The photo gives you a nice closeup of the speaker unit.

Backdrop Blog - Marked as Spam?
I created an extensive backdrop blog last night, May 11 and now it's gone. Can someone confirm if it's truly unavailable or was just marked as spam? It took quite some time to build an I don't want to re-create if I don't have to.
Steam loco weathering services
Without being maudlin or macabre, my recently diagnosed medical issues make time an important factor in my model railroading decisions. I enjoy my lone wolf operations, but I would like my shiny new locos -- Bachmann Shay, Climax and Mogul -- to look well-used. I simply don't have the luxury of time to learn new skills like airbrushing and powder weathering. Not seeking to win prizes or appear in magazines. I would just like my locos to look like they had been on the job for a couple of decades on a short line without a wash rack.
Posting issues with the Forum and Kindle Fire HD last night.
Last night, between 11:30pm and midnight, I was reading forums using my Kindle Fire HD. I found a post that I wanted to respond to. I typed out my response and suddenly about a paragraph into it I could no longer type anything. So, I tried editing my post. I could delete, but I couldn't type characters. Yet, the predictive text on the Kindle was functioning while I was typing characters. It was just the characters were not appearing on the page. Has anyone run into this?!?! Was there a hiccup in the forum page last night?
