Protecting against UV light
I have been reading Ben Kaur's article in the July MRH (3rd Place in the $500 layout contest) and noted his comments regarding the damage that UV light will make to your investment. I noted his rather extreme measure of covering the window with sheet foam and blackout curtains. I also noted his planning consideration of having the layout room available for the primary purpose of sleeping - bedroom perhaps?

What's the difference between...
...this forum (Website general discussion) and the Modeling general discussion forum?
What I really want to know is where to put comment/suggestions about the website itself.
Thanks,
Al
Making resistive wheel set questions
I have some questions about making resistive wheel sets:
Looking at Intermountain wheel sets, it has a blackened surface. To attach the resistor, does the black need to be removed?
Is there a non-blackened wheel set that would be better to use?
Some mention soldering to the wheel, how does that not melt the insulator?
Scale is HO. Wheel size is 33".
I am looking at the bulk packs as the best route, I have a very large fleet of Stewart / Bowser and Athearn BB cars.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

White glue vs matt medium for gluing ballast - your opinion please
In another of my threads about using 2" foam as sub-roadbed it was suggested to use matt medium instead of white glue to adhere the ballast with the reasoning that matt medium remains flexible thus transferring less vibration / noise than white glue. Your experience and thoughts are requested. Thanks!
Filing the Kadee lip
My small around-the-room shelf layout has no (zero) Kadee magnets on it. All uncoupling is done manually. Skewers, darning needles, screwdrivers and Kadee tools are all tried as uncoupling tools. Most work, most of the time, with varying degrees of effectiveness.
Great Pictures!
A company is restoring old Library of Congress photos in HD. Some great railroad shots with lots of rail barge/transfers too.

Opinions please on using 2" foam as the sub-roadbed on my benchwork
Elsewhere on this site there has been some discussion on using foam board and sound issues. I am planning on using 2" extruded foam board as the top for my wood bench work without using any plywood. The foam would also serve as my sub-roadbed on which I would use adhesive caulk with either traditional cork or the WS foam roadbed. I thought that I would like to use the foam for the bench top because of how easy it would be to sculpt the land forms.
Canada Day
A happy Canada Day to Canadian Model Railroaders. And to those who model eras in Canada before 1982, it's a happy Dominion Day on your layout.
Any train events/excursions going on today in the country?

John Allen Centennial
If this has been mentioned here before, please forgive me but I have not seen any post on it. John Allen was born July 2nd, 1913 and we are quickly approaching the centennial of his birthday. IMO he was one of the greatest if not the greatest model rail of all time. Further details about the centennial as well as other info on John and photos of his layout can be found here....
Another excellent site with photos is here

Model Torque - Australia
I came across this type of drive on a British model railroad web site and did some searching. Any of you Aussie guys familiar with this company. http://www.modeltorque.com.au/ I see that the main company is a Mobile Telephone Co. and that Graham Rooke was the "inventor" of this type of drive. Unfortunately he passed away last Dec. and the company has gone quiet.
