Focus stacking

A friend just gave me a copy of the May 2013 issue of Popular Photography magazine. In it Paul Dolkos writes about "focus stacking", a technique involving combining multiple focus-bracketed images into one deeply focused one. Paul uses a scene on his fine model railroad as the subject. I know a little about photography and a little about computers, but the article was clearly written for those more expert in these subjects than I.

Photo Backdrop Printer?????

I have been hesitant to ask this for fear it will turn into a Digitrac vs NCE type discussion, but here goes.

I have been amazed at the photo backdrop pictures posted on the forum - especially Tom's Logansport and Indiana Northern, but did not want to hijack his thread.

I need to replace my dying inkjet printer.  I have used HP printers in the past (except for one Lexmart inkjet - colors did not come even close to matching reality).

What are your thoughts on Signature blocks?

What are your thoughts on signature blocks?

Many of the people who post on this site do not have a web site, custom graphic for their railroad, and some do not have a layout.
Many people who have one or more of these use the signature block. That's great. There are some nice ones out there.
I am wondering...

Are signature blocks getting a bit on the large side?

The steam and smoke are absent!

I know that I'm not the only one bothered by this, and I know that the problems seem insurmountable. But so was sound in an HO loco not that many years ago, never mind N scale.

What colors should I get to paint Eastern US hills & mountains?

Since I'm sort of in limbo on my layout I thought that I would try my hand on trying to paint backdrops. I'd like to purchase the paints and supplies tomorrow so can you all suggest paint colors, brush types, ect,. Thanks!

Blog, Purpose of?

I'm almost embarrassed to ask this, and I am aware of blogs, but I associate them with individuals running their own site with blogs. But here, I'm having a hazier time of distinguishing the difference between a blog and starting a new topic in one of the forums.  In fact here, some of the blogs look like topics started in one of the forums.

So (blush) what is the function of the "blog" here versus starting a topic in a forum?

Getting tools, paints and parts organized

I'm renewing my love for Model Railroading after a 40 year sabbatical. What I am finding that as I get back into it there is an ever growing of tools, ain't s, brushes, screws, nails, rail spikes and joiners, and there is the vast collection of trains entailing parts etc. I'm struggling in getting organized and find places to put everything.

What are other modellers doing to get control? Show me what you have done.

Thanks.
Marty

odd find

Just thought I'd share this.
