Getting Started
Newbie's first thoughts...
As the title says, I'm a complete newbie at this... We've (My 6yr old son and I) have some hand-me-down life-like HO locos and rolling stock along with some basic track and a few switches. We put it on the dinig table whenever we're allowed, but can do to much with the limited temporary space...
We're in "negotiations" for a more permanent space, so I'm looking to prepare for the future...
nmra weight standards
Is this an important issue? If so what do you use for weighing stock?adding weight? If these questions sound stupid I'm a complete newbie just really getting started with my research any help is appreciated.
Getting started
I have been interested in the hobby for years. I am trying to start a small layout that will be moveable as my wife and I will be relocating within a year or so. I have some track, cars, engines, wish to go dcc which will require some retro-fitting. I would need some help getting started as my arterritus has become a real problem. Any thoughts?
For those of you modeling Arizona railroads
In a couple of his videos he has the title Peavine. This is a nice looking layout for N scale.
Deciding on a line
Hello there! I am very new in the hobby and am excited to get started. I purchased a Bachmann HO set at a pawn shop and scrapped together a few used buildings from my local [awesome] train store in Latonia, KY. It is a simple 36" oval but I loved building it and showing it off (along with a custom base for the tree) as well as running it. I've learned many things with this short layout (don't try to staple track, ballast is a b, keeping track clean, snow stinks, people/lighting are awesome).
Switching layout
Hi!
I model H0 and I´m in the design process of an industrial layout but space is tight, so I don´t want a main line.
Does anyone have an industrial layout with no main track?
buying / collecting stuff before starting
hi,
I want to ask if is it a good idea to start buying/collecting structures and maybe some locos before even having a track plan?
we do have some draft and ideas of what we want to model.
Quality of bramds - rolling stock and engines
I was wondering what the consensus here is on quality rating of different brands.
I am currently using some old Bachmann trains to experiment with (plus to have for my grandson to play with). I am planning a permanent 8 x 4 layout to be set up in a spare bedroom. I plan to have one continuous loop on the outside edges to run my grandsons stuff on but want to run some better detailed, better running cars on the inside tracks.
I know everyone's opinion is different but any personel insight would be greatly appreciated.
Books for a newbie
This is the list of books that I just ordered to get me started with most stuff of the hobby...the selection i did it myself reading around...my question is do i need any other book?

Classic mistake or is it?
Been out of the loop for a while due to life's little difficulties however back now and I already seem to have made a classic mistake .. one that others may have made before.
