Getting Started

Just moved - Starting over with a smaller space.

Hi,

I previously had an ambitious layout and plenty of space for it, but it never really got past bench work and pink foam.  This time around I have the opportunity to start over and want to stick with a smaller layout that I can actually make some real progress on.  Once that's done, I can always add on if time allows.

I really like the idea of doing a 4x8 table design, but with a divider down the middle of the long dimension.  So really two 2x8 opportunities with an outer loop connecting everything.

Should I wait until I move to get started?

I'm new to model railroading.

I'm going to move to Nebraska in two months, do you think I should wait until I move before I get started? I plan on setting up in the basement with a large track layout.

Starting my first model railroad project

I'm starting my first model railroad project (finally). I've gone back and forth on track plans a dozen times and finally decided to try the TOMA approach and build my railroad a piece at a time.  As of right now, I plan to install stand alone, permanent benchwork and then set my modules on the benchwork once they're completed.

Photos and more details follow.

My 8 year old sons Free-mo Module

I recently gave my son Lucas a 90 degree Free-mo module for him to complete. He has decided he wants to model a small town with a grade crossing and on the other module a farm. I have decided to add a page to my Blog to keep a spot to show his progress as he works on his module. He has already picked up a few structures and has a good idea on what he wants to do. Here is the module wet when it was used as a fill in in OKC a few years ago. Since OKC these modules have just been sitting around and will be much better with some scenery.

N scale coffee table

Does anyone know where I can get plans to build an N scale coffee table layout? I don't need so much help with the track layout, but looking for plans to build the table or any advice.

Thanks-Tim

New Bright Model 380 Christmas Train with brass track?

Hello, this my first post, I am a novice about trains.  I have a NB Christmas train model 350 and was wondering if it will work if I use brass track instead of the plastic that came with it?  Appreciate any and all feedback!

Bluerail train control

Hello to all;

As a long-time reader, and a (very) short-time subscriber, I'm one of those types that have only recently become involved after many years of kids/family/dormancy, etc.  That being said, I'm basically still in the "dark" (read all-DC only) ages. All of my (old) lighting is 110v.  In light of these revelations, and after following every bit of information I could find, both here at MRH & websites, I've just ordered my first "Blue Horse, the Blue-tooth board designed & manufactured by Dave Rees & Bluerail Trains.

Where to place insulating gaps?

I am a retired newbie.  I am building my first HO layout, a rather large one.  I have a question about locating insulating gaps.  What is the recommended shortest distance from a switch for such a gap?
