I am starting the project this summer and the concept has been done.  I freelance my railway - the Ontario Eastern - its is a railway that is proto -freelance. I model the modern day up to a point, most of the engines on the layout will be 6 axle.  There are certain areas that i will be modeling, but I am trying to figure out the best way to build the layout - that being down the right side, up on the left to a island, down that and up the wall on the left.

After a 25-year hiatus, I've been working on the first module for a while off and on over the last year.  I used SCARM to see how the plan would work, because I'm handlaying the track and don't have any pieces of track to use as a mockup.  After laying out the yard module in SCARM, I started building it out.  Figured out where I would locate it in the house, then worked out a potential track plan. 

I want to do my layout on a 2" foam base. Just wondering where others have obtained this. I'd prefer to get a 4x8' sheet and cut it down the middle to make 2 8x2 sheets to go in the 2x8 modules that I will be making. I looked on Lowes web sit and they have 1" thick and 1.5" thick. I guess I could get the 1" and glue them together but I don't think that would be ideal.
