Creating Waybills

A question was asked about how to create "waybills", I moved it out of the thread on the existing article.

Part of that question depends on what type of waybills are you creating (2 move, 4 move, prototype, waybills for a particular software package, etc.)

Generally what I do is I use a spreadsheet to organize the effort.

I list each station on my railroad.

I list each industry/track/spot at each station.

Steam comes to The Highland

After long delays, The Highland finally got its steam program together and began testing. Watch as we explain the operating plan and then follow the trains as they run along the line.

A good place to watch and listen on YouTube.

Here’s a familiar place to go that you’re seen on TMTV.  Bob Fallowfield hosts an interesting discussion with a CN train controller.  It’s an interesting interview!  Enjoy!

Floating Brake location on a siding

How would you accurately simulate or operate setting the hand brake on, say covered hopper railcar(s), at a loading/unloading siding without knowing the size of the railcars or how many are in the setout ? The railcars need to be held in place for coupling/uncoupling as well. In essence this will be a floating and non-fixed braking location on the siding.

Shenware Car Cards & Waybills

Hi all,

I've been looking through various methods of operating my railroad when I getting it to that state and came across Joe Fugate's video about using car cards on Trainmaster's TV. I've tried looking for the software he was using but http://www.shenware.com comes up as 'Account Suspended'.

Is the software not available anymore?

Switching ops with remote crews: New remote-control panning for riding-on-car view

Now that we can operate my layout with a remote Conductor, Engineer and both at once, I get to railfan my short line at work several sessions a week. It's a whole lot of fun (and a bit spooky) to see the action happening with no one else in the room.  wink

Southern Pacific in the San Joaquin Valley in central California, The SP Exeter Branch.

Rick Watson models the Southern Pacific in the San Joaquin Valley in central California on his SP Exeter Branch railroad. This HO scale railroad was specifically designed for switching. He has been operating the railroad for 11 years and has hosted 248 op sessions to date. Rick will be sharing his experience and lessons learned over the 11 years of operations.

board game "Freight Train"

With virtual gatherings on track for the holidays, I'm looking for family board games that can be shared via Zoom, Skype or whatever.

I've read about a board game called "Freight Train", that has to do with assembling freight cars within a railroad yard. 1) Has anyone played this? 2) could you adapt this with the main board at one place, and other players at remote location(s)?

Or are there other railroad-themed games that could be adapted? I can almost imagine Mexican Dominoes.

Hazardous Material Handling - Pre-1977

Here is a link to a pdf copy of the handout for a clinic I presented today, Oct. 25, 2020, on the OpSig Virtual Meet Up on "Hazardous Material Handling, Pre-1977".  In 1977 the old hazmat rules changed to the more modern ones we used today.  This clinic looks as the rules from about 1914 up until 1976.
