That is what I'm here for is good ops articles...

I suggest people subscribe to the OpSig.org Dispatcher's Office.

the entire light ops thing is a joke,   Operations all boils down to a few basic ideas.

Gravel Operations Questions

I have the "Life Like HO Operating Gravel Unloader #8204" and would like to know the best way to incorporate it into my layout.

I can picture delivering gravel from a quarry to this unloader, but what then? What is the "prototypical" way to then take that raw gravel and get it to a processing plant/cement plant, etc.

Thanks,

Club layout, how to transition from switch lists and switching games to the next level of operations with a mixed group

So, for a small layout, switch lists, or even car cards and waybills are often more than satisfactory to "operate the layout." On a larger layout though, formal operations may start to demand a time table, scheduled trains etc.

On a basement clogger this is "relatively" easy. If you the owner are in to operations, you will collect people who are also in to operations and the complexity will be supported by those that operate with you.

Is it "Op session" or "Ops session"?

Hi everyone,

Random question of the day... when referring to an operating session, is it "Op session" or "Ops session"? I constantly see it referred to as both and my little brain is confused. Which one is the more appropriate spelling?

Thanks,

Joel

My switching list generator

If I can do something myself then that's my preferred route so when I needed a program to produce a switching list I decided to write it myself. A few years ago I would have likely written in in the BASIC programming language but as time has moved on I decided to write it in Python, a more modern language.

Creating switch lists for ops

So as I begin my planning and construction of my layout, I'm beginning to think about the future ops sessions that I plan to have.

This is a pretty neat video showing some basic operations concepts graphically.

Jammed gearbox

My first loco - a Life Like Proto 2000 GP9/18 which I have picked away at over the years to make more prototypical-ish - ran like a dream on both DC and DCC until two days ago. Since I have never had a layout until recently, it has had perhaps a couple of dozen metres of running, total.

So the other day, testing it between wiring in the speaker and adding the lights, it just stopped dead, buzzing. Reversing it took it a little distance, then stopped again. If I lift one end so the truck idles in the air, it jumps once per rotation.
