Help with an Athearn Blue Box locomotive

Hello all. I am in need of some advice on how to get my Athearn locomotive to run. Heres the story.

It was a gift from my wife for my birthday. The guy told her he had taken it apart at one time and had put it back together but could not get it running.

I noticed the metal band that goes across the top of the engine was missing so I soldered wires to each of the tabs that stick up from one side of the power trucks. Both are on the same side so they are getting power from one rail. Soldered those wires to each end of the top motor clip.

Truck & coupler tool idea

I have another weird idea.  If anybody likes it, I'd love to hear how it works.  I might even try it myself one of these days.

The way I see it, there has to be a definite relationship between the height of a body bolster and a coupler mounting pad.  If we imagine that there is one standard bolster height, and one standard coupler pad height (for a given scale/gauge, of course), then you could make a go/no-go gauge which touches both and would show whether one or the other was off.

Two problems with that assumption:

Wheel Problems...

Hi All,

I picked up a couple boxcars at a local train show a month or two ago and I'm having problems with one of them.  One of the trucks seems to derail pretty easily, usually around the corners.  I know my track isn't perfect ( old sectional stuff on the dining table), but this is the only car with problems...

Railpro installation thread

It was suggested in another thread that users of Railpro post examples of how they installed it so that other users could get ideas on how they could successfully install the system in their own equipment.  I'll start it off, but it'd be helpful to have other users post examples of how they went about it on different models.  Pictures are helpful, as well as specific materials.

Has anone used Palace Car Company interiors?

I have several Roundhouse MDC kits, and discovered http://www.palacecarco.com Palace Car Company on the web.  Hasd anyone used their interiors?  If so, how easy are they to install, and how do they come out?

Thanks!

TAPP truck modifications?

Gang,

I was going through my junk box and found a couple of trucks made by TAPP. I seem to recall that these trucks are the ones that came on a Front Range Products GP7. I have never used them and apparently, they do not run very well, what a surprise...  These FRPs came with Mashima motors but poorly running trucks. Sad, because the truck sideframes are some of the most detailed ones I have seen, especially considering they were last produced about 15 yrs ago.

Larger Speaker for New Bachmann S4

Background Information:

I am primarily a model builder but recently became interested in DCC and sound decoders. So I am new to the current technologies. I recently purchased a Bachmann Sound Value S4 and NCE Power Cab. The engine runs great but I am a bit disappointed in the sound quality of the prime mover (There is not enough bass). I was planning on adding a full-functioning Soundtraxx but do not want to invest more money in the loco if the sound quality does not improve.
