Steamin' good Books (AKA) O Winston Link’s "Last Steam Railroad in America"

Just bought an amazing second hand book on Amazon - “The last Steam Railroad in America”.

O Winston Link’s photo record of the last days of steam on the Norfolk and Western 1955-59  including the Abingdon Branch.

For those steam buffs among you I can highly recommend it - seems to be plenty of second hand versions about.

Mini-hardware source?

I have a United models brass 2-8-2 with a gearbox issue. The bearing on the input shaft has "spun". the bearing turns with the shaft intermittently and makes a lot of noise in the process. The gearbox housing looks like a white metal casting. I'm thinking I could drill a hole and insert a screw to stop the bearing from rotating. Anubody have any advice? How about an online source for tiny screws? Thanks in advance

Worn tender trucks

Hello everyone. I am rather new to this web site, but have been following it for over a year. I have really learned a considerable amount of model railroading tips and ideas. But to the point: I recently purchased an older Riverossi HO scale Big Boy at a local train meet. The seller did inform me that it had the wrong tender with it. The tender is a 6-wheel truck with the power strips on both trucks. I have other Riverossi locomotives that have the same wheel configuration as the one I purchased. Has anyone had any success repairing these trucks?

B&M Cabeese question

It's easy to find pics of Boston and Maine cabeese from all times--but not so easy to find info on what they ran at different times.  I'm assuming the blue ones would be common in the 50's and 60's..but I can't find what they'd be using in the 1920's through 40's.  Can anyone direct me to a source?

Thanks!

rr car ends

I'm new at this. Please help. How do you determine which end of any type of railroad car is the A or B end? This may have been answered already, many times, so would appreciate direction to post.

Thank you,

RABrown

UP 4023 on 10th Street

I took these photos back in 2005 when Union Pacific moved the 4023 to its new display location at Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha, Nebraska.

I grabbed them to experiment with the Animoto video creation service.  Don't know if I'll continue to use Animoto, but I thought some of you would like to see a Big Boy moving down a residential street.

Sprung Truck Springs

I was doing some housecleaning around the workdesk yesterday, and I stumbled across a box stuffed full of pieces to make the old thee-part sprung freight trucks. I'd picked it up at a swap meet last year and forgotten I had it (thinking back, had I pressed the issue at the meet, the seller might have paid me to take the box off his hands...)

Decoder, and size of speaker and any modifications You had to make. I want to add sound but would prefer to just add it to the existing DCC if possible.
