What power tools and equipment might go on a MOW car, 1920's

I'm building some MOW equipment for the 1920's.  The railroad is quite prosperous, and so has decent stuff.  What might be loaded on the MOW or wreck train.  I'm specifically looking for what might be in an open equipment car, along with shovels, a wheelbarrow or two, and the like.  Is there any portable or semi portable powered or otherwise interesting equipment that might be in the car?

Atlas O dimension question

Quick question, folks..

How thick are the walls of the Atlas O scale 40' box car?  Alternately, how wide is the gap between the sides?  I'm designing a piece to fit between the sides and convert the box car into a caboose, and I need to know the inside dimension so that the piece will fit properly.

Undercarriage for 36' wood reefers

Hi there,

This is my first post on this forum.  I am a newbie from South Africa.  Only started getting interested in the hobby at around this time last year.  That is also about how long I have been subscribed to MRH, but I am still so overwhelmed by the skill and expertise of people on here, that I felt too intimidated to post something.

scratch built G scale Class A Climax

Well I thought I share a build I have been working on. I originally purchased a kit of a Class A climax from Ebay to build as I liked the way it looked.

Well I got the kit and started building it. Needless to say, I wasn't very impressed. It had been opened and some of the wood parts were missing. But the overall quality of the kit just didn't impresseme.

vanderbuilt tender trucks

Hi all,
Just wondrring if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Im after a pair of Rivarossi vanderbuilt tender trucks (the 6 wheel variety), for a project i'm currently working on - a South Australian Railways 520 class 4-8-4 (google it - our CME ripped off the streamlining from the PRR T1 class)

I had a pair of IHC trucks set aside but they are just too longer wheelbase. Looking at the walthers website, I can't find anything (perhaps I'm looking for the wrong keywords).

Any help would be most appreciated.

Brass vs. Plastic

Years ago the disparity in prices between brass and plastic loco's was always pretty large.  Given that prices on the high end plastic stuff have risen dramatically over the years, that price difference has shrunk quite a bit in some cases.  For example, I recently came across a brass Overland Models' GP-15 with DCC in UP colors for $345 at Caboose Hobbies in Denver.

I was always taught that the only stupid question is the one that wasn't asked.  So, not having any experience with brass myself, I thought I'd ask the experts here:

Kato SD40-2 pickup problems

This spring, I purchased a pair of Kato SD40-2 CP snoot locos.  I installed tsunami sound decoders in them both and put them into service on my layout.  After only a few weeks, (really only about 2 hours of run time) one of them simply stopped working while moving along the main.  So, I ended up putting them both out of service and they took a place in the stack of projects that need attention.  This week, they made it to the top of the stack and I have been tinkering on them.  The one that was running when put away was giving me fits, but a reset of the d
