Removing Woodland Scenics dry transfers

Hi all.

I need to remove a Woodland Scenics dry transfer from the side of a car. There's no clear coat applied, but I'm not sure how to remove it. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

BL-2 Running Lights

I've been working getting my HO BL-2 running lights working, and thanks to some help on the board, I think I've got it figured out.  However someone mentioned that it would be non-prototypical for the BL-2 to run with all four lights lit at the same time (one on each corner).  I assumed that the first generation diesels would run with all four lit, instead of the two forward lit when moving forward, and the two rear lit when moving in reverse.  Does anyone have any information on this?

Adding weights--probably saying what people already know, but perhaps not

Every so often, I see mention of people pouring shot of some sort into a container to add weight, where ever there's a void space.  If you want to maximize the weight, whatever size shot/bearing balls/whatever you use, there's void space--add smaller balls that can settle between the voids.

Painting under frames

I have several Accurail boxcars that I am planning to assemble (L&N, Monon). My question is; I like to paint the weights and under frames before assembling. To be prototypical, what color should I paint them (black, rust, etc.)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wabash Freight Cars

Here's a couple of resin Wabash freight cars.  WAB 47440 is a Speedwitch automobile boxcar.  Easy kit to build as its a one piece body although the individual hand grabs take some patience to drill all the holes for and apply each individually.  I believe I counted 34 hand grabs so that's 68 holes!

Bowser #100475 Northern 4-8-4 All Metal locomotive kit

Hi guys,

I have a question for you.  I was looking at buying a Bachman 2-8-4 Berkshire with DCC for 999 South African Rands (about $87), but now also have the option of getting my hands on a Bowser #100475 All metal Northern 4-8-4 locomotive kit (incl. tender), but also including the #100485 Super Detail kit, for ZAR 1,200 (about $104).  I would definitely want to convert the loco to DCC&Sound, but not sure how to do that.

I am new to the hobby, and would therefore like your opinions/assistance on the following two questions:

Model trains - made from wood

February 2015 - a large model railroad exhibition in Dresden/Germany

- including a great modeler with his friends who have built their models from wood for 5 in. track gauge (127 mm) and 80 mm narrow gauge (3 ft.)

Look their fantastic works!

On18 Critter Build

Howdy all,

I thought I'd start a new thread on the On18 steam critter I'm building for the portable Calico mini-layout (MRH thread here).

This will be an entirely freelanced locomotive built atop a Kato 11-103 N scale mechanism.

For the body, I'm starting with a 3-D printed O9 piece ordered from Shapeways.com.

Kansas, Oklahoma & Gulf GP7 and Midland Valley caboose in HO scale

Here's a couple of shots of a KO&G GP7 I stripped and painted for the prototype.  The locomotive is a Bachmann DCC Sound unit. I tried several model paint stripers and the only thing that worked was 91% rubbing alcohol.    I added sun shades, lift rings and the wire hand holds up the nose on the front and back. The  3" stripes are from Microscale's white decal set for 3" and 4" stripes and the KO&G logo is from Odd Ball decals.
