Locos and rolling stock

Bachmann Spectrum 4-8-2

So, I went to the train show/swap meet in Ottumwa Iowa over the weekend. Just a word of advice...do NOT go to a swap meet the day after getting two teeth pulled. It's very difficult to concentrate.

Anyways, I went through all the tables and saw some really good deals...If I were modeling modern diesels. It took me until the last table to finally find the guy that was selling steam engines.

RS1500DC ???? Huh?

I picked this up at a swap meet this weekend. The guy told me it was a RS1500DC. Oh? I can't find a thing on the net if such animal ever existed and I don't think it did. What do the experts say. From the chassis it looks like an Athearn product, but I don't ever recall an Athearn producing such a thing.

Athearn 33k Tanker Wheels are Super-Pizza Cutters??

I just picked up a N-Scale Athearn 33K LPG tank car.  Needless to say it's an exquisite model.

Bachmann Northern 4-8-4 tender

I recently purchased this engine. It was advertised as DCC ready, but is in fact DCC on board, so bonus!

However, when i went to check it out, I found out something the owner didn't know. There was some jimmy rigging on the tender itself for whatever reason.

N-Scale Body Mount Coupler Solution

N-scale Body Mount Coupler Solution

I like the concept of body mount couplers on N-scale rolling stock.  But I have had issues with negotiating the tighter radius curves on a small layout.  Back when I first decided to run N-scale, I designed a larger layout with an average of 22-inch radius curves.  Now that my focus of design has switched to a smaller operations based layout, my curve radius has changed to smaller radius measurements.  Some as tight as 9 inches.

N scale Bachmann oil conversion

I am converting my coal burning Consolidation to an oil burner while my daughters are doing spin art. Disassembly of the Bachmann 2-8-0’s tender is a bit more complicated than I expected. First you have to unscrew the screws that hold on the trucks. You also have to remove the handrails from the front of the tender, then place a VERY thin screwdriver into the mounting hole for the truck and push the screwdriver into the tender to push the top off. Once you have the tender separated, carefully remove the back of the coal bunker from the coal pile.

How to install BLI Mikado backup light

Has anyone installed a backup light (rear headlight) on the tender of a BLI Mikado?  The models are accurate as USRA Mikados and they didn't have rear lights, but I want to add them anyway.

I've looked in the tenders (I have 6) and there is no obvious place to solder wires for a light.  I bought mine from 2 releases and the decoders are different.  Decoder Pro identifies one as QSI Steam and another as Paragon 2.

Can anyone help?

Could this be called a manual 3D?

3D printing consists of layers being stack one on top of the other. This gave me an idea. The roofs of boxcabs have a very shallow curve to their roofs. It's kind of hard to get the right profile over a length of 3 inches or more. While I was working on my boxcabs for the HOn30 quarry line the roofs keep falling off. As i was looking at them I was thinking there has to be a better way. I think I found the answer in the etched kits so popular in Britain. I snagged a kit that was/is produced in Canada. The picture below shows the chassis.

Rivets, I need Rivets!!

Hello All,

I'm working on the Artesania Latina, Powell St, San Francisco Cable Car kit! Aside from the many mistakes, and lack of detailed information in the instructions, its coming along fine! Definitely an advanced modelers kit!!!

The manufacturer had provided small brass, 1.0 mm x 5.0 mm nails, with a large flat head, to resemble brass rivets. But, they wont mushroom down like they should, to do the job. I'm using a small upholsterers hammer and a steel anvil, but the nails,  just want to bend over.
