Bachmann H0 USRA 2-10-2 question

Hi@all,

does anybody here know the minimum radius of the loco?

Thanks and regards

Choosing a locomotive

Simple question from a beginner: how do I choose a loco for my layout? My layout is an HO trunkline, designed for the 1960s in the south. Just having a hard time trying to choose the right loco. Do I go used to tinker around with one, or go new (and expensive)? Any advice would be appreciated.

Icebreaker

I saw this article: http://rrmodelcraftsman.com/extraboard/cm_extra_dec1973.php (Hope it's not a no-no to link to another magazine's free stuff) and decided that it would be a good little project--one that will work for my eventually layout, yet also fit in at the club as a unique piece of rolling stock.  I neglected to take any pictures at first, but just snapped a couple.  Like the original railroad would have done, I'm using on-hand materials; the I-beams scale out to 8 1/2" instead of the recommended 10.  I'm using Evergreen2.5 mm styrene I-beams.

Micro LED choice and source?

I'm starting to think about locomotive headlights, and I could use a little advice.  Specifically, I'm working on HO scale steam locomotive headlights.  The casings I will be using are translucent and are large enough to accept a 3mm LED, of which I happen to have a lifetime supply.  However, I am considering the possibility of using something like a 0402 SMD LED - three actually, one for the main light (installed behind a paraboloic reflector) and two more for the two number boards.

Book or other source--weathering question

I'm ready to start weathering, finally (other than some semi-accidently weathering results) and there's LOTS of different advice in books, online, etc.  What's a good resource to get started?  I'm currently looking to weather rolling stock and locos; buildings are for the future.  (I have a club layout to run on, but don't have a home layout anywhere beyond the gleam in my eye stage.)  Diesels are not a concern at the time; I'm working in the 1920's, som the diesel loco is brand new.

Custom Coal Loads: tips/advice needed

Hello. I've recently tried an experiment with making my own coal loads for my sizable HO scale hopper fleet. However, the experiment didn't go so well so I've decided to ask for help from the forum. I'm using scenic express coal for the loads and the cars range in size from 55ton to 100ton. What base material should be used for the loads so that they can be removed fairly easily (I.e. no wrestling with the car in order to get the load out)? Also, what's the best way to get the different shapes from the different loaders? What's best for gluing it down?

Removing Cab of Genesis GP38-2

Hi All,

I've got an Athearn Genesis GP8-2 with a couple dead headlights...  I've figured out how to pop off the full chassis, but it looks like I need to remove the cab portion to get to the headlights...

It's only about a year old, so very surprised the lights have been toasted already...  One of the tail lights is also dead...

I've got some tiny LED's I'm going to put in their place..

Thanks.

Interesting prototype--has anyone built one?

The giant, jet powered snow remover is an interesting piece of equipment.  Has anyone built one?  Here's one in action: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2011/01/23/mbtas...

Bachmann Trains GE 70Ton

Been reading up on the GE 70Ton produced by Bachmann and see comments about dual motor and single motor.  I saw a comment about Spectrum vs regular as well.  I see from Bachmann's website that no Spectrum version is available.  Has the problems with gears cracking and such been eliminated with the current version being sold? What other problem are there with the current version?

Thanks

Michael
