Question on reporting marks

Would AAR assigned reporting marks, such as AMTK for Amtrack, or BM for the Bostin and Maine, be assigend to a narrow gauge railroad that interchanged freight with standard gauge, and possibly had some dual gauge track?  For example, would such a mark be assigned to a surviving two-footer that's running today in revenue freight and passenger service?

Rapido announces Icons of Steam

This morning at Exporail in Quebec, Jason Shron announced Rapido's next major project - Icons of Steam - this will be a multi-year project, culminating in 2023, and producing 12 iconic Canadian Steam locomotives, usually in multiple classes. The schedule can be found at http://www.rapidotrains.com/iconsofsteam-schedule.html

In short:

2017 - Canadian Pacific 4-6-4 Royal Hudson (three classes)

2018 - Canadian Pacific 4-6-0 (three classes)

2 foot gauge insanity--Pacifics, diesels, and how fast can you run?

I’m expanding the details of my Great North Central 2 foot gauge line, with a possibility of building some of it in On30.  I have an old Mantua 4-6-2 Pacific that may end up as an On30 locomotive.  (Or I might keep looking for a good running, cheap n-gauge Pacific to bash instead, but I’m really wanting to model some of this line in On30)

The Great North Central, in short, is the result of a merger between the Sandy River and Rangely Lakes, and the Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington—small lines with big names…

N Scale Hopper Shells

I'm looking for N scale undecorated two or three bay coal car shells.  Does anyone have a contact for these?

N Scale Locomotive Grille

I am hoping to replicate the large intake grill on these new KiwiRail DL locos - N scale.

Does anyone have an idea where I might find a suitable product?

Thanks

Right size of wheels

Hi all.

Some things on the US scene are new for me. And one thing the size of the wheels. Why? Because almost all of my rolling stock (N Scale) has plastic wheels and I want to change that. Metal wheels will give them  a bit more weight and I'll add some more. After I read Mike Confalone's thrid book, I really want to try all of this.

Doubt came into my way when I was seacrhing for replacement wheelsets, and I saw 33" and 36" sizes.

How can I know what should I use for my cars?

Thanks.

Driveshaft driven caboose generator

Does anyone know a source in HO scale for a driveshaft driven generator used on some late 60s caboose trucks?

I'm kitbashing an Atlas extended vision caboose into an accurate Northern Pacific version.  The NP used this style of generator drive initially before balancing problems forced a change to a belt driven style.

Thanks

Proto 1000 to Kato Chassis Swap

I purchased two Proto 1000 RS-2s back before Walthers took control of the Proto line. They are the first generation RS-2s. They ran OK for a while. Now they don't run at all. They get power, but no performance. When they do decide to operate they are very jerky. It is not the axles either, they are all OK. (Replacing axles is a common fix for all of my Proto 2000 engines). The problem is that the bodies have been super detailed. Can any one tell me what would be a plausible chassis swap? Specifically, will the Kato RS-2 chassis fit under the Proto 1000 Shell?
