GP-10s finally?

So, I went to the Intermountain web site today, and they are taking reservations for the new GP10 engines.  Only 1 group of 4 interests me, so my choice is easy.  Wish I could afford all 4 of them.

Truck for Kato Corrugated Passenger Car N scale

Would a Micro Trains 003 42 051 (1017-S) truck be a satisfactory replacement for this passenger car? I do not want to get the MT coupler 1129 (001 30 013) as I cannot handle assembly of the coupler. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

CP Rail's Holiday train

The Holiday season is upon us again and as usual CP rail is on the road with their Holiday train. This link will take you to a video of the activities. Of real interest is at the end of the video where there are links to great drone videos showing the build progress of the Belle Plaine Spur. Their site also shows where the train will appear and when. This is also a wonderful cause to help feed the needy.

Why so blue?

So I'm working on a weathering project and seeking proto photos when I find this one.

So I know I'm partially color blind. But those trucks certainly don't look black to me! Why would they be blue?

Quality of Bachmann's 2-8-2

So I saw the announcement of Bachmann's new release of a Lt Mikado 2-8-2 with its Sound Value decoder.  I'm still looking into how comparable the sound decoder is to the Tsunami. My bigger question and concern is the level of detail.  It doesn't appear this to be a Spectrum Model so is this more a low quality line item they are offering?

Roof walks

When dd the railroads start removing the roof walks off of freight cars.

N Scale CNW Crandall Cab 503

I built this N Scale CNW Crandall Cab about a year ago for a guy. I started out just like the CNW by using an E unit (Kato).

Chuck Zieler prototype photo.

The Kato E8 that I started with.

Next to an HO Scale E8 for a little size comparison.

Tangent Models Two Bay Airslide

Finally!

Another option for two bay airslides besides the "cheap" looking replicas Walther's puts out.

Avoiding Foobies, and impulse buys that you struggle to find a use for....

If you are like me, you probably have rolling stock that you made impulse buys on over the years, and now you can't find a prototype for it... Or it doesn't fit your area, etc... I found a fix for myself. I made an excel spreadsheet..  Hopefully it helps others.

The classic railcar kit is BACK: Kit Classics from ScaleTrains.com

I did this quick video as a bit more in-depth first look at the ScaleTrains.com (major new manufacturer) new KIT CLASSICS product line. ScaleTrains is bringing back the "Blue Box" style kit, at the very affordable price point of under $15, but with some great 21st century improvements! Check out the video below for more about this exciting new product line.
