Locos and rolling stock

The two day car

The local railroad needed a few tourist cars for trips through the scenic mountain pass, and needed them quickly.  A damaged 40' boxcar was taken into the shop for a quick rebuild.  It was stripped to the deck and repainted.  The shop had some 6x6's and some 1 x 10's on hand, and quickly threw together some sides, and threw some green paint on the raw wood.

The car, at this point, only needs benches and chains to keep people from falling out when the train is in motion.

Athearn Genesis light bulb specs

Does anyone know the specifications (particularly the diameter) for an Athearn Genesis GP9 (CN) front light bulb. Mine blew out, and I've been advised to use Miniatronics rather than the stock Athearn ones - the Athearn ones are hard to come by in the UK and very expensive as well...

I emailed Miniatronics and they were useless, bordering on rude.

Athearn didn't get back to me :(

Any advice gratefully received,

-Paul

027 Lionel Loco AC or DC?????

Hi everyone I have a question that I know somebody can answer.  I primarily use N scale stuff but when my dad passed away I found 2ea 027 steam loco's, one was made out of plastic and the other was pretty heavy cast metal.  I was thinking of setting up a small layout under the xmas tree this year, but after reading about the transformer/controller how do I know if my 027 trains run off of DC or AC.  I want to make sure I get the right controller seeing as I don't have one.  All I have is a few rolling stock and some track.

Help with a brass steam loco

I am interested in tuning up some older brass steam locos and getting them DCC'd. I've read the awesome clinic handouts from Mark Schutzer. But I have a few more specific questions and are a bit more unique that what Mr. Schutzer included. The loco that I have on my workbench right now is a Customer Brass 2-8-2 that has been remotored and DCC'd by the person who owned it before me. The locomotive works, but it has a bit of binding. I am thinking that when the driver axle was pressed on it may not have been quartered correctly. Is this a good place to start?

scratch building rolling stock

I am working on my MMR and ready to attempt to scratch build some rolling stock.  My question is, are there any web sites where I can view or download drawings (preferably free) of various types of rolling stock?  I could probably just look at a commercial model and work from that but I would rather work from an original drawing if possible.

First time with an airbrush

Hey all,

I'm brand new to airbrushing and this is day two of my airbrushing attempts, this is actually the first piece of rolling stock I've weathered as well. I seem to be getting freckles and small spots on the model rather than a smooth transition of color, I'm trying to figure out why? Any ideas what could be done to improve?

Looking for similar tourist cars--anyone have any pics to point me at?

I’m building some open cars for a tourist train, using the Central Valley 40’ freight car Floors and Frames 3-pack.  I like the look of these Edaville open cars, that used pipe railing and no roof—true open air cars.  I can’t find any other pics of these or any similar cars, narrow or standard gauge—perhaps my google-fu is weak.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Atlas S2

I have an old Atlas S2 that somehow got fried. Can I put the old shell over  a new sound drive?

Want to add sound to this engine, hopefully this would be a shortcut.

Thank You

Lubricationg GP-20

I have a Walthers Proto 2000 GP-20.  It has a factory installed tsunami sound decoder.  It runs great, however, being about a year old I want to do some basic lubrication.  The people at Walters said the shell, weights, and decoder must be removed to get to the worm.  I thought about just removing the cover plate on the bottom of each truck and lubricating them.  Does any one have experience doing this?  Any better ideas for lubricating that engine.

Thanks
