Locos and rolling stock

Question re: HO scale talc covered hoppers

A question for our New England "Knowledgables":

In addition to PD3000s and older PS-2s, what other types of covered hopper could be seen in talc service in Vermont during the late 1970s/early 1980s?

I've come across many photos, especially of Green Mountain Railway Alcos pulling covered hoppers, but the reporting marks are tough to read.

Thanks for any information you can direct me to!

The Proto 2000 NKP GP-18 looks so much better with the proper headlights and bell.

Passenger car yellow--what paint? and markings question

I am going to be painting a private passenger car, and was thinking that the classic passenger car yellow that's seen everywhere from the Denver and Rio Grande to the narrow gauge lines of Maine would work.  (I can't print decals in white, so the car has to be a light color...)

So--what color yellow won;'t look garish?  I'm hoping for a rattle can if practical.

Og--what markings would be required on a private car, like Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show advertising cars, in the 1920's?

SD90MAC parts where do I find them?

Some modeler out there knows where to find this sheet of etched parts. It is for upgrading a RailPower SD90MAC and I think it works for the SD80 as well...  I would like to have a couple of these sets. I found these pictures on a website run by someone named Terry Tsutsumi. I do not have an account on the system, so I have no way to contact him. Supposedly, someone in Germany made this set of parts. I do not know, maybe Plano Model Products or the like has made a set like this?

Broadway Limited Niagara 4-8-4 jumping Peco turnouts

Hello to all, and Merry Christmas as well. I am looking for some input for a problem I am having. I recently purchased a Broadway Limited Niagara 4-8-4 and a NCE DCC System. I am running HO, Code 100 Atlas flex track, and Peco medium turnouts. Minimum radials on the layout is 22 degrees. The front guide truck on the locomotive seems to jump the frog on one switch, and jump the track before the frog on the other one. Just those 2 switches. All others seem fine. This was a DC layout until I converted it to DCC.

KATO locomotives on ATLAS track

Hello everyone!

Can anyone tell me about running an N-Scale KATO locomotive into N-Scale ATLAS tracks?

Really I want to know which track code will work for a KATO locomotive -N scale-   I tried to find out via Google without sucess.

Thanks!

Escaping Rebuilds - Great Northern 50' Auto Car and Freight Cars in General

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Westerfield Great Northern 50' Wood Auto Car. To my dismay it came as the as built model in the mid-1920's rather than the rebuilt version that would fit in better with my era of the early 1950's. I will probably keep it but it brought up an interesting question.

How often, if ever do freight cars escape rebuilds by their respective railroads? My understanding with this model in a fleet of around 1000, most were rebuild by the mid 1940's.I'm basically trying to make a square peg fit in a round hole...
