Locos and rolling stock

Kato P42

I have 2 Kato P42 Amtrak locomotives. One of the wires to one of the motors in each loco has broken, causing, of course, for that motor to not operate and drag. I cannot detect any nic on the wire that might have caused this.  Has anyone else had that problem. The breaks are so close to the motor that it is impossible to skin it and solder a new wire to it.

Thanks. Jim

BLI UP AC60CW corrected to 7513- lots of photos

I posted this build 5 years ago without photos and little info. These engines from 7500 to 7510 have many differences from 7511 and up. One of the most notably is the raised roof. The early engines have the roof over the engine compartment even with the tops of the doors, the latter ones have a 8 inch space. Another spotting feature is the reversal of the grill and X panel on the clean air section.

Plans for 52ft FMC "Railbox" series boxcars requested.

Do any members have, or do any members know where I can locate plans for modern box cars such as the FMC 52ft "Railbox" cars?

I'm amazed that with all the modern locomotives available in G scale, there are none of the prolific Railbox prototypes. It grinds my flanges knowing there are ripoff models ( older cars with non prototypical new artwork) being run,so I want to make some myself.

Suggestion needed on a Eastern Car Works flat car

I am working on two Eastern Car Works F-38 flat cars. A 50 foot PRR one and a 36 foot deck that will become Southern 50099.

This kits leave a lot to be desired - instructions being one.

I am looking for suggestions for connecting the span bolster to the bottom of the car. The stud on the bottom of the car is only 0.013" wider than a 2/56 screw.

0n30 loco height

What is the height of the typical 0n30 locomotive? Looking at putting in a shared holding yard for the HO and 0n30 railroads. Trains will disappear under a bridge to access this yard.

Loco in question is the Bachman 2-4-4-2, but any loco would probably be close.

Thanks.

Is this the answer to N Scale coupler slinky bounce ???, I think so.

My son and I have pondered an N Scale layout, but my enthusiasm was held back by the coupler/car slinky bounce, it just spoils the illusion.

How can I model dirty windows

I want to have some mildly dirty windows on a few buildings and locos.  Not too dirty to see out of to opperate the trains, but also not pristine clean.  (I want to make the mechanism inside less visible...)

Any ideas?  Thanks!

Older Life Like GP7

I dis-assembled an older LL GP7 to install a decoder.  I have found that it has only one black wire coming from each truck.  Thses wires are coming from the same side.  The only Red wire is attached to the frame with a threaded screw.  Is this acting as the left side truck power?  I do not have another engine to take apart and check this out.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
