I am working on two Eastern Car Works F-38 flat cars. A 50 foot PRR one and a 36 foot deck that will become Southern 50099.

This kits leave a lot to be desired - instructions being one.

I am looking for suggestions for connecting the span bolster to the bottom of the car. The stud on the bottom of the car is only 0.013" wider than a 2/56 screw.

Thanks

Tom

Eastern Car Works Kit

Instead of drilling/tapping a 2-56 screw into the bolster stud, try a smaller screw such as a 0-80 with a thin washer to hold the bolster assembly in place.  Or if that does not sound robust enough,  epoxy a 2-56 screw into the bolster stub that extends enough that the whole truck assembly could be held in place with a removable nut. Some sort of thread lock will need to be used to make sure the silly thing stays in place!

Yeah, I'd try the smaller screw first as it sounds easier. If it doesn't work an alternative would be to drill thru the deck from the top and countersink a flathead machine screw then put a nut on the bottom. The screw head could be puttied over and the deck touched up.....DaveB

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will try the 0-80 screw.
