Does anyone know if the Turbine engine sounds from old Union Pacific turbine locomotives are similar to the ones used in Amtrak's turbo train from the '70s?

D&RGW narrow gauge livestock cars use in mining

For some time I have been bitten by the narrow gauge bug, and having visited both Durango & Silverton and Cumbres & Toltec I have a distinct D&RGW bias. I am well aware of the use of livestock cars relocating cattle to higher elevations to graze in the summer, but I wonder if by the time the railroads started serving the mines pack animals were still used, and if they were used did the D&RGW delivered them using livestock cars?

Fun with SMD LEDs

I was excited by some videos I saw about using SMD LEDs for lighting in locomotives. I knew I wanted to try this and looked around online for the sizes etc... of SMDs. I found an excellent image that shows visually what the sizes are in comparison.

Hey all,

I'm not sure if this should be here or DCC, but I"m having trouble with a Genesis ES44AC that I bought for Xmas, and then installed a Tsunami decoder in it about a month ago.

I replaced the board that was installed with the new decoder, and I soldered all of the connections on the board instead of using the wire clips that Athearn used. At first it was running like a champ...went over the entire layout with no problem at all. I even took it to the club's show and it ran like it was supposed to.

Centerbeam Flatcar Brakes?

So I have a centerbeam flatcar that I've decided to add some brake detail to, flipped over the car and drilled out the 3-way valve, air reservoir etc. Looked at some prototype photos and it looks like the trainline or some other component runs from the brake gear in the center of the car DOWN at an angle to BELOW the trucks? This looks different than any other car I've looked at the brake rigging on. What am I looking at there?

Ah, spring is in the air with the scent of, uh, stock cars! I recently completed 4 stock cars kits (2 RailLine and 2 MRGS) to add to the cars of kit and Blackstone heritage already on my HOn3 DRGW Santa Fe Branch (Chili Line) circa 1938. I used prototype photos to match, as best as I could, how the cars appeared in the late 30's. This primarily meant changing sideboard configuration. It seems no two cars were alike.
