Rustman

So I have a centerbeam flatcar that I've decided to add some brake detail to, flipped over the car and drilled out the 3-way valve, air reservoir etc. Looked at some prototype photos and it looks like the trainline or some other component runs from the brake gear in the center of the car DOWN at an angle to BELOW the trucks? This looks different than any other car I've looked at the brake rigging on. What am I looking at there? It hangs so low and is pretty distinctive, so I'd like to include at least the general appearance on this model so when it's on the layout you can see that. This isn't tucked up between the frames out of site unless you turn the car over. A quick image search for Centerbeam Flatcar showed that this is really conspicious from normal side viewing.

Truck Brakerods?

Dear Rustman,

I'd venture to suggest that the "downward angle" rods are the rods connecting the brake-rigging (combination air-brake + handbrake lever) to the truck brakebeams, as if they "undershot" under the inboard axle.

Note that the rod does not appear to extend beyond the inboard axle,
(to the left of, in the pic below)

I suspect Centerbeams have this "undershot" arrangement, as compared to most other cars, because of the large dia wheels typically on such cars combined with th very-thin and low-profile "flat deck".

Yeah, those short vertical pieces are u strap hangers to keep the rods in place. The train air line is up closer to the floor somewhere. The thin line visible parallel to the floor might be the hand brake rod connecting it to the center lever? .......DaveB
