Weathering: Dirt vs. Rust

Can a case be made that weathering effects distinguished by era?  Dirt (steam engine smoke) up to several years beyond the transition era, and rust for modern era steel cars?

SD90 MAC RPP body, OMI drive

I built this unit several years ago and photographed it. The photos were awful. I took a new set of photos using my wife's I-6+ and the photos were much better. I used the gadgets to make the photos better. I hope you enjoy the photos.

...............is to replace the gears with chain and sprocket.  I had originally posted this in in the Workshop Thread where it might have gotten lost (or, I suspect, there are few O scalers here)  Anyway, before and after videos.

N scale old West

I may have an opportunity to purchase an American 4-4-0 in old Western style, but I need to know if I can get rollingstock for it. If it is going to be too difficult to find economical rollingstock I shouldn't go buying another loco. Kits will be acceptable, assuming they can be obtained economically and don't have silly features like single-layered etched brass underframes...

Scenics wouldn't be terribly difficult.

Bachmann Coaching Stock parts

I have purchased some used (Read: "Roadkill project car" used) old Western coaching stock, and some of them have no bogies or couplers. Well, make that "only one has them". They are all Bachmann, but Bachmann's parts service does not carry bogies for individual rollingstock, only some generics. Where can I get bogies for them, and what couplers should I get?

Chicago, Indianapolis, Louisville Freight Car Roster

I have been told that before the Monon switched their name from the CIL, that their freight cars had a different numbering system than that of the MON. I am unable to any information in regards to this. I do have a listing of the freight car roster under the MON suffix but not the CIL. Where can I find such information?

ScaleTrains Sound Reefer Mod

I work at a Food distribution center in the midwest, and we get a wide range of Reefer containers and trailers. One thing I have to always watch for at work is a reefer unit with an "Alarm Light" on. While I couldnt find any prototype photos of container reefers showing the alarm light, I did include one in my video of a standard 53' reefer trailer, but basically the same thing.

Proto 2000 Heritage 2-8-8-2 shell/boiler removal?

I've got a P2k 2-8-8-2 that fried a decoder.  I suspect it's because the motor went wonky - I replaced the decoder and it does everything but move.  A little Googling seems to indicate that the brushes go bad, and it's a simple fix.

Except...

A little more Googling shows that I need to take the screw out from under the smokestack to get the boiler off so I can get to the brushes.  But there's no screw there on mine. (Mine is Item # 23333)  If it came with a parts sheet or instructions, they are long gone.
