Locos and rolling stock

Adding sound to DCC equipped Walthers Trainline GP9m

Hello MRH,

long time listener, first time caller...

Dull Coat Preference

What preference do you prefer on using dull coat paint, shaker can or air brush and why  I read where some use Krylon 1310 dulling, but when reading Krylon literature it says wipes off .  Cans of Dull coat spray seems to go fast. $$   Thanks Zeke

scratched beer can tank car-Brass

The prototype car hauled Kymene, a chemical used to give paper that slick look. It was manufactured at our local Hercules plant in Brunswick, GA. There were 5 or 6 of these cars in this service. I made the car from .015 sheet brass that I wrapped around a aluminum dowel turned to size. I heated the brass to soften it. After I soldered the brass, I added three brass bulkheads for strength. I turned the ends on a lathe from a WW2 Liberty ship. All of the fittings are brass except the man way cover.

DCC Engine to DC Track.

What needs to be done to a Full DCC engine to run it on a DC track?  Should I be stocking up on DC engines or will there still be DC engines in the future.

Thanks,

Athearn Genesis U50's, DCC and Tsunami Sound

I picked up a couple of these unique locomotives since they fit in the midst of my 1954 to 1969 modeling timeframe. From first glance they look pretty nice and from the limited amount of running I've done, they perform great!  I need a DD35 to stick in between them.

Athearn Genesis GP38-2 issue - problem with user, not model

I have six nearly identical Athearn Genesis GP38-2s, all recently converted to Loksound.  The first five run perfectly - very smooth and quiet - but the sixth just went into service for the first time and acts like a completely different beast.  With the exact same sound file and settings as the others, this one is very jerky, and its top speed is only about 10-15 smph vs. 50-60 for the others, leading me to believe that this is more than a need for breaking in.

Scale Trains new locomotive--Tier 4 GEVO

Scale Trains just announced on Facebook that their new locomotive will be a GE Tier 4 GEVO. There will be several versions (I think 11?) with all the prototype details. The Facebook stream was choppy so I do not have much other information such a when it would be available. These Tier 4 locomotives are longer than the existing top of the line locomotives because of all the exhaust treatment necessary to get Tier 4 rating. So this would have to be all new tooling.

Brass Buckeye Truck Wheel Replacements...

Hi everybody, I have a brass model from Woosung, Rail Classics, with buckeye trucks. Everything is great on the model except the pizza slicer flange on the wheels. I am looking to replace with the Exactrail .088 36" wheel sets. I wanted to just throw out this before I bought the wheels to see if anybody had done this before and if there were any problems or anyone has advice?

Thanks,

Martin
