Prototype Railroading
What questions to ask a former feed mill manager?
One of my modeling projects is a model of TD Feeds in Redmond, WA. It was torn down in 2000-2001 time frame. About 10 years ago, I managed to get a email address from the Redmond Historical Society of a former manager of the operation. We emailed back and forth for about a year. He sent me,photos and information. I saved the photos, but one day I lost my entire email account (school shut it down because I was no longer a student). I lost everything.
winter scene in Switzerland
My cable box runs a series of screen-saver images when it's not tuned to anything. They shift at about an 8- or 10 -second rate sequence, so if you miss any details, you have to wait for it to come by again. Right now, in a beautiful series of photos from all over the world, a variety of scenes such as the Northern Lights, mountains, lakes, etc. are shown, along with their location. One in particular caught my eye; it's what looks like a stub-ended track next to a station along with two passenger cars (no loco) in a winter setting.

Looking for a coal flood loader with balloon track in WV (FOUND)
A while back I was in Google Earth, scrolling through coal country West Virginia looking around the various main lines for coal operations. In this particular session I started following the rail lines from VA into WV along I64 and looked at places like Pax, WV.

ORER - 1965 - a few pages needed
Does anyone have a copy of the Official Railway Equipment Register for 1965? (or any year 1960-1969?)
I need a few pages preferably scanned. I can use hardcopy via US mail if you can't scan..

Finding Historically Accurate Freight Cars
Hey Everyone,
Brand new to the site but been in the hobby for several years (looking but not touching!). I finally have a place to build my own layout and I have been thinking about what freight cars I want to include on my layout. I am doing a small proto-freelance layout and I have been stumped as to how to find out what types of freight cars were on CN lines in southern Ontario in the 40s and 50s and what railroads were represented.
My two main questions would be:
The Strasburg Railroad is expanding. They received a grant to build a freight transload facility next to the interchange.
The location is right next to route 30. This will mostly separate the freight service from the tourist operations. https://www.pennlive.com/life/2019/12/strasburg-rail-road-company-awarded-17-million-grant-millions-of-dollars-awarded-to-26-rail-freight-projects.html
Roof material ...
Is there a comprehensive overview somewhere of which box car types have roofs made of which material?
It would be very useful not to weather a model with rust while its prototype has a roof made of aluminum.
