Prototype Railroading
Parked locomotives in Salt Lake
The article says maybe 200 locos parked at a cost of $3,000,000 each. Also of note was a reference to "PSR".
Interesting read.

Installing a turnout (prototype @ La Plata MO)
I have to admit, this was 20 minutes of fascinating movement. BNSF track gangs were repositioning a prebuilt turnout from near the Amtrak station further west along the sub. How they did it is interesting, as I've never seen this before. Enjoy the choreography of multiple Cat 33X hydraulic excavators (one with a nifty trick up its sleeves)

Northern Pacific
I have been modeling the Northern Pacific in 1953 and in HO. HO might have the the most locomotives representing the Northern Pacific and 1953 is the heart of the transition and allows me to model both late steam and early diesels. As well as S-4, W-3 and other steam locos, I love F units, RS-1s and RS-3s GP-7s some Baldwin locos, Alco S-4s and NW switcher units.

Intermodal Trailer Leasing Companies
When I was a budding "foamer" in the early 90's, pig trains were full of 45' trailers with heralds like TransAmerica, XTRA, Availco/ Preferred Pool, Redon, TIP, Strick, etc. As 48's and 53' trailers became the norm in the mid 90's these names began to fade from the railroad scene, along will railroad owned trailers. A few companies like XTRA and TransAmerica had 48' trailers, and XTRA Lease had 53's, but by the early 2000's intermodal leasing companies had almost disappeared.
Paper Mills
This crosses both the modeling and prototype line. There was an explosion in the digester facility at the paper mill in Jay, ME. IIIRC, this area would/could have been served by the Allagash RR. Fortunately, it appears that any injuries were minor.

Flat Switching?
I model/try to model the Northeast area. Its what I grew up with and its what I remember....gritty/in your face old school.
Ive had this bookmark lerking in my browser for years. I love the sounds...equipment and crew.
So because MRH is so oustanding in letting ideas flow....Id like to know from all of you...what do you see wrong?
Are you old school and see nothing(like the brakeman riding the car after climbing on and trying to crank the brake wheel?)
Or are you new Rules...everyone doesnt have PPE on?
DTMF Deactivate signs
About a month ago, before the recent unpleasantness started, I spent a few hours looking at every part of the Grafton and Upton RR visible from public property. Looking back over some photos today I was reminded of something I'm curious about. In two places I noticed blue signs with the text "DTMF DEACTIVATE" and a number like "*0001". I believe DTMF is the dual tone multi frequency tones (like touch tone phone dialing) which I believe some railroad radios can send, so I assume the number is the number they need to send to deactivate something.
Just my guess..(why truck gets hit by train)
Train hitting a truck video right? There are several factors that come into play with a scene like this. Just today..4/4/20...I worked a local job climbimg the most demanding truck kicking hills in the area. I gotta be honest...I rolled through a stop sign or 2 to keep my momentum of weight going..trying to keep the posted speed limit.

Front of a loco
I am trying to upgrade a locomotive, and I need to know what this part of a locomotive is called and if there is a detail part for it. Thanks!
