Locos and rolling stock

Bachmann GE 44 and 70 ton loco interiors

I'm considering buying a Bachmann GE 44-ton and/or 70-ton HO loco. The ones I have my eye on are non-DCC, because I plan to build my own radio-controlled dead-rail system. What I'm trying to determine in advance is how much space I can expect to find inside. I have one larger Bachmann loco (GP38? Not sure) which has a single powered 4-wheel truck, and unpowered 4-wheel truck, and lots of empty space inside.

Freight car pictures

Hi everybody,

I'm starting to make a list of all of my locos and cars and I would like to have prototype informations about my models - pictures as an inspiration for weathering, etc.

Any recommendations which website(s) are good for that purpose?

Thanks!

Andy

Finally! Trolley poles are on PE 1124!

I would like to thank Volkmar of https://interurbanmodels.blogspot.com/ for using his 3d printer for making N Scale trolley poles! These are articulated and both can be up or down! They are very affordable and installation was very simple. Simply put a 1mm (or for us stupid Americans who still use the antiquated British Empirical system, 3/64th inch drill bit) into a pin vise and drill through the roof at the correct location.

I will be amalgamating these projects into one thread for my CNR 2-8-2. Stay tuned.

Plastic Pellet Hopper Cars and Unloading?

I have a food processor on my layout that takes plastic pellets for packaging.  I model 2000-2005 era.  I have figured out a difference between these and grain hoppers is the round hatches on the top for loading instead of those long doors for grain.  What I don't know is how these are unleaded into those towers like Walthers makes.  Looking at pellet users on Google maps it does not look like they just dump them into some kind of pit though the chutes on the bottom of the hopper.  Who makes cars I could use?  Thanks.

Athearn versus Kato AC4400 swapping parts ???

So,

You know how it is when you're given something, right?

I was given an old blue box AC4400. the fuel tank is missing on one side of the frame. Since Athearn parts are so hard to find, I thought I would try modifying a Kato fuel tank to fit. Sure, I could make the part out of styrene from scratch, but I am trying to make my effort a little less difficult.

Thanks for any suggestions or experiences you can share.

Removing Lettering from Passenger Cars

I have several passenger cars that I would like to remove some of the lettering.  They are all Pullman green, so I was hoping to remove the road name and possibly the number and decal for the Frisco.  I have three different makes:

Athean

Bachmann Spectrum:

Rivarossi

Rock Island Maroon - Suggestions?

I looked in the MRH Acrylic Painting Guide for Rock Island maroon color mixing and found one for Rock Island red, but unsure as to its suitability for the maroon color of the older diesels. Was hoping some of the Rock's modellers might have suggestions.

This is what I found in the painting guide:

6pt Model Master 4633 - Gloss Stop Light Red
1pt Model Master 4609 - Flat British Crimson

7pt Vallejo-MicroLux 71.102 - Red
6pt Vallejo-MicroLux 71.103 - Grey Blue

Thanks in advance!

dh123at

Hi,

I know the dh123at arent available anymore. And i use the just wire editions of my dcc decoders for my blue boxs. Having trouble getting my wire to stay on the truck connector. So was wondering what sidemounted push on connector did they use and any idea of ones like it. So can stop fighting with my wire. Lol
