Locos and rolling stock
Painting over pad-printed wafer.
This CNR wafer was covered in a very tough and durable gloss lacquer.
I managed to rub through the gloss lacquer covering the wafer using an eraser and realized it is not a decal, but a pad printed wafer on the black finish.
led's
hows a bit of brain picking here.
best led lights for wiring up a ho scale loco (both diesel and steam). using dcc for control/power.
i see so many low cost lights on flea bay, but they are from communist china. and i have read that there's are not so great. or is it more a brand / style thing?
i do not want to have to drill out junk, just to replace them in six months when they start to burn out.
yes head lights, marker lights, number boards, and ditch lights. both in white and red,(marker lights on a caboose) other color, app?

Sources of HO scale X23 boxcar besides Westerfield?
Are there any sources of PRR X23 class boxcars besides the out-of-production models from Westerfield? I am also trying to avoid brass.
The PRR had 6,000 of these boxcars. I only need 6 or so.

Custom artwork rubber stamp to letter cars?
I have about 100 ore cars that I bought lettered for inappropriate roads to the Missabe. I have painted over the sides. Faced with having to buy LOTS of decal sets, I am wondering whether one could create a custom art rubber stamp to letter most of the car.
The artwork would attempt to recreate this, less the number:
Steam locomotive descriptions
I was looking at a locomotive I'm considering to order. I note that it says the loco has a "Power Reverser" and has a "preserved condition-steel cab". Does anyone know what is meant by "preserved condition'?
Here it is in context:
"HO Scale - Steam Locomotive - H-6-g 4-6-0 (DC/SILENT): Canadian National (CNR) - Tilted Wafer - Preserved Condition - Steel cab, Power Reverser, Front-mounted bell, Horizontal pilot, Coal Tender - Small Headlight."
Ugliest Locomotive you'd have on your layout?
Just a topic for fun. What's the ugliest locomotive that you'd be willing to actually have and run on your layout?
I figure there's been 'ugliest locomotive' threads done already, so I'm qualifying it. I do C&O, and every time I see a picture of a K-2 I wonder if I will ever be able to find an accurate model of one. Probably has to be brass, but I'd buy it if I could afford to.
avoiding rubber band drives on used locos
In browsing internet sites I'm trying to find a level of used (DC only) equipment worth of detailing and painting for my new layout
I'm trying to get entry level prices but be able upgrade looks with small parts. I don't want to discover rubber band drives etc after buying
Steam Locomotive info
I'm I need of some help. I have recently started to model project, a S4 CB&Q 4-6-4 locomotive #3001. I am very lucky to live in the same city as where this locomotive is on display, so reference pictures are not a problem.
Question about Broadway Limited paragon 3 locos
I was wondering if the decoders in these locos have a braking function, similar to TCS, Soundtraxx or ESU? Had a look through their documentation but couldn't see any mention of it.
