Some SP Power

Hello. This is my first post on this excllent new site. I primarily model SP in the mid-1950's, but here's a few pictures of some of my friend Rob Mallett's SP power from a more modrn time.  They were taken yesterday on our club layout, Anson Yard:

(N-Scale) Kato SD70ACE Pre-Orders

Just wanted to post that a few online dealers are now taking pre-orders for some of the Kato SD70ACE Heritage units.

These locos are due out in Feb 2009.

Am I famous now?

I just found out my review of the new Kato N-Scale GG-1 is on the Model Railroader Magazine newsletter this week.

Before anyone says anything, yes I know I can't spell and sometimes leave out letters and occasionally a whole word.

I wrote it after running my GG-1 on my blub's layout for about an hour just after I got the loco. I've run it several more times since and I love it. I now more convinced than ever that you need to have the Kato blue railer to get this one the tracks. Otherwise there are just too many wheels to fiddle with.

N scale metal trucks/wheels?

One thing I'm not particularly liking about N scale is the trucks and wheels.  The Intermountain are OK, but they are still plastic which I'm not particularly enamored with.  I know I've seen metal wheels for N scale, but are there metal trucks?  The metal wheels would make a huge difference, but I think metal trucks would be a lot better, too.

A few of my favorites

Here are some of my favorite pieces of rolling stock.

First is a gondola. It started life as a 50'er but I shortened it to 40'

Next are two flat cars with lumber loads. I scratchbuilt the loads

CNJ 1000 Boxcab rebuild

Hi,

Since it rained here last weekend and I was suitably dissapointed, I spent the day working on a rebuild of a boxcab for my Bronx Terminal layout.

I took several pictures of the work so far, which has been focused on replacing the drive with a NWSL PDT.

WPM 2008

Well, I got back from the WPM meet around 9PM PST last night. Was a new experience, lots of interesting stuff to look at, and the intermodal presentation was dead on. I shot around 250 photos. Met a few new people (including the guy who does the Q&A section of the Streamliner (UPHS's magazine). I got his email, going to get myself some more info towards my UP excursion fleet. Met a few guys who're interested in having me detail their Dash 9's too. Lots of oohing & awwing there. The detail re-work on mine impressed them the most.

There's gotta be somebody out there

There's gotta be somebody out there doing something with locos and rolling stock worth telling us about!

Anyone?
