Locos and rolling stock

Paint comes off, but not lettering

OK, I have some Athearn hoppers that were custum painted and decaled.  They were done as South Buffalo RR Cars.  A local hobby shop had them done, long before Kadee and Atlas did theirs.   As I have refined my layout plans, I have come to realize I have no use for them.  But I can use the actual hoppers so I want to repaint and redecal them for my own railroad.

Decals or Dry Transfer lettering

Anyone know who makes and where I can find decals or dry transfer lettering appropriate for Tichy tank cars.  How about for Tichy PFE wood reefers?  Microscale makes some for tank cars but I don't know if they are correct for the forties.

Does Anyone Know Who Manufactured This?

I found this little gem while going through an old box of HO cars and buildings that have been in storage for 20 years.

Does anyone have an idea as who manufactured this shuffle/back hoe (HO)? It was given to me by Paul Jansen when I was around 17 years old, now 60.

Tichy/Gould flat car painting update query

Recently there was an article in some publication regarding an update to the flat car deck painting guide that was in the Gould/Tichy flat car kits.  As so often happens, I cannot remember where I saw it.  It is not in MRH, but it might have been in a link from it.  Or it may be elsewhere.  Does anyone remember seeing it and can you point me to the source?

Thanks,

Rob Morrison

Spectrum HO 2-8-0 wiring question

I have a question concerning the headlight of a Bachman Spectrum 2-8-0.

Truth be told, I was relaxing, and had a couple of beers this afternoon,, but I got frustrated with this loco (I had installed a Tsunami light steam decoder in over a year ago using the plug) as it would stop and start, like it was shorting out some how. It's stock sister runs fine over the same track, so I am pretty certain it was the loco and the wiring.

So I ripped out everything (yea beer!), and hard wired the Tsunami into the loco. It now runs great.

Time for new weight Standards?

With the ongoing improvements in locomotive hauling capacity, steel wheels, better turnouts and track, kiss coupling, etc....are the current NMRA standards for car weights out of date. Since we all scale model, this includes train length as well. Not sure what a prototype GP40 or MP15 could pull, but on a typical layout, scaled out, it would be about 15 and 10 cars. (WAG, and depends on each individual layout).

Proto 2000 SD45 detail

I have just added a Proto 2000 SD45 to my roster but can't figure out a detail issue.

Below the engine room air intake just behind the cab on the engineers side there are two holes already drilled in the body one below the other. The holes are too big to be for a grabiron, and despite looking at many prototype photos none show anything on the hood side in this location. There are two large shiny black plastic bits in the add on detail parts pack but I cannot relate these to anything, Can anyone help with a solution....and a reason for the holes?

Thank You in advance

Showing off my 5 CN loco consist.

Hey guy's, did a little test video based on Joe's advice using decoder pro to speed match some of my loco's. Check it out, gotta love Atlas gold master loco's sound! P.S. Video is kinda "jumpy" cause i used my wife's digital camera to take the video so quality is a little low and the scenery still leaves something to be desired! lol...Getting there though...Ricky'

First Look: Rapido N scale Panorama Line Lightweight Coach

OK, this isn't going to be anything groundbreaking.  I'm not a rivet counter, nor do I pretend to know every detail and what should be where.  I see detail and I'm good with it, so this isn't going to be a critique of anything they've missed or didn't do correctly according to prototype.  This is just my first impressions of what will be the basis of my passenger fleet on my future N scale railroad.

Early Diesel

Is anyone currenly producing an EMD SW1 diesel switcher in HO?  I believe Walthers did a few years ago but apparently not now.
