Maine small town

Hi all.

on my layout, I have some focal points that need to be separated by scenery breaks.

My layout is roughly based on Maine, 1980's.

The first break I wanted to place would be a bridge, but as the bench work was not prepared for that, I discarded that option, because it would make things complicated.

So, I thought on having a small town, with a level crossing.

Micro Sol after the fact

Applied a decal to my corrugated metal siding grain elevator.  Noticed the "Micro Set" solution is just not enough to soften the decal where it gets down into the groves for a "painted on" look.

It will be tomorrow before I get to the hobby store. Would it be too late to apply "Micro Sol" by that time?

WS ground foam color change after gluing?

On previous layouts, I put down ground foam in one step - heavy coat of mixed colors on a thick coat of latex paint.      I was experimenting last night and applied dilute Tacky glue with a tad of dish soap on a base layer of foam and noticed the base layer darkened quite a bit.  It's not horrible but I don't like the look of it.  Is it common for the WS to change color or was it my glue mix?  Might have to rethink doing a multilayer approach.

Questions about Trackage on Stone Arch Bridge

I could have sworn I asked this question before, and if I did it was not on this forum (and going through the many different discussion groups I used to belong too will be too time consuming unfortunately instead of just asking those who have a similar type of bridge, would the track on a Stone Arch Bridge be Ballasted or not? And if it was ballasted (because I presume the structure underneath was designed or resulted in having a surface to have ballast, there would be no need for the additional ties or the extra width "bridge" ties on such a bridge, correct?

Concrete "test" panel

I am working on a series of concrete and block retaining walls for a city section where the New Haven RR went though the town of Waterbury, CT. Shown in the picture is a small "test" panel of what the concrete retaining wall will look like when complete. Please let me know how I can improve it before I start on all of the actual concrete retaining wall panels. I say panels because they are made in sections with .040 styrene and are not mounted to the layout yet. I wanted to paint and weather them at the workbench for better control of the detailing.

Would buying "upgrade" to 90W laser worth invenstment

I'm posting this under Structures and Scenery because there is not a "Tools" Category and this tool is used mostly for structures (though there are other uses I know).

For those who are experienced with these units, I would like to inquire about somenting.

Need suggestions for Creosote Color Paint

I would like to use inexpensive craft acrylic paints to paint a styrene trestle (to make it look like wood) a creosote color.  Any suggestions what colors to mix and what ratio?

Thanks.

My first attempt at N Scale anything.

Hello guys and gals. This is my first attempt at scenery. It still needs some touchups of course but I'd love to hear any feedback, whether it be negative or positive. I wasn'twasn't able to spread the plaster cloth appropriately but I think the rest looks decent. The piece is only a little over 2 feet long and 8 inches wide. I had an absolute blast creating it! Thank you for any feedback.

Help wanted - looking for a post with a photo of cardboard scenery

Not very long ago,  a couple of weeks or so, someone posted an interesting photo from his layout showing a tight cardboard web instead of the usual mesh for making the basic form for scenery.
It looks more like some cut foamboard to scenery contours and glue them side by side.
I have searched through many posts from the last weeks, but not been able to find this photo.

Can anyone remember this and point me to the right link?
Even better if the builder can come forward and tell us more about his technic.

LED size question

Hi I am modeling in N scale and I have a couple of fuel storage containers.  A couple of them are from Bachmann and have a light flashing in the center of them.  What size LED do I need so that I can duplicate this flashing or it can be just solid in color it don't really matter to me.  I just dont know what size to buy
