Nice little utility pole tutorial

I was browsing through You Tube and found this little tutorial on HO utility poles.   I don't know the poster but I liked what he did and how he kept it budget friendly.  I just thought some others here may also enjoy it

Trestle Piles

I'll be building several pile type trestles on my layout, and I'm looking for the diameter of a typical pile used for trestles.  I have searched high and low for this, and I'm drawing a blank.  I even have some Illinois Central trestle drawings and the bill of materials shows dimensions for everything except for the diameter of the pilings.

I would guess that they would be 12" or 14" diameter, but would hate to build my first trestle only to find that I've used the incorrect size!

Any help will be appreciated.

Casting Plaster Bridge Abutments

A friend of mine gave me his Hydrocal leftovers (about 30 lbs.) a couple of years ago, and he'd had the sack for maybe 3 or 4 years prior to that, so the stuff is pretty old.  It's been stored in the original sack, which was placed in another heavy plastic bag, and stored in a dry place.  A couple months ago I wondered if the stuff was still good so I tacked a piece of screen to a scrap of plywood, mixed a batch of the Hydrocal and applied a nice coat to the test panel (about 1/4" thick).  It set up quickly and the following day it was pure white and very hard.&n

How to paint a Telltale

Hi

I bought 4 telltales (you know, the arrangement to tell the maximum hight of cars and locos) from Tichy Train Group. They came in glossy black plastic so naturally I have to paint them.

However, I have searched the web for relevant images, prototypical or models, to find out what color to use.

I am sure someone out there can assist me.

Walthers Diesel Fueling Facility

Hello all

The instructions with this kit refer to installing a complete section of track and not using the walkways for a modern facility. On the prototype, would the track be ballasted in that situation or are the ties fixed to the base?

Hedges

Hey guys

I just finished a video about making my own hedges. I'd be lying if I wasn't happy with the results!

I initially wanted to use 'Rubberized Horse Hair' which is quite popular in the UK but it's not so easy to get here in Australia... Not sure about the US? So in the end I use 'Coconut Fiber Basket Liner', it's the stuff you put in the bottom of hanging baskets and pot plants to help keep the moisture in although I'm sure you could also use 'Furnace Filter' material as well and get the same results.

Micro Engineering Tall Steel Viaduct

Hi gang. I'm looking for some information about designing bridge girders on a slope. One leg of the girder will be 30 feet long while the other will be 40 feet long. What should the cross bracing look like?
