Questions about homemade shingles
What material do folks use? I've seen suggestions of very fine grade black sandpaper and that's the first thing that comes to mind but I also had a kit once that used what looked like construction paper. Is there a certain pattern they should be cut and/or laid in? Commercial products are not an option right now. These have to be made out of something readily available at the local Wal mart, office or building supply store. If it matters, these will be put on an older steam era type structure.

Backdrops - Do I choose one that looks better in person, or better in photos?

Where to find remnant pieces of Linoleum Flooring for backdrops
So far, most of the flooring businesses I have been too, do not offer remnant pieces of linoleum flooring, as demonstrated by Joe Fugate in his DVD video series. Any suggestions other than buying actual flooring how i might acquire long and narrow pieces to use for backdrops. I like the idea of using the material because of the lack of seems.
Thanks.

A quick hello from Belgium
I'm new to this forum and if the English of my posts is not very correct, I apologize, but I use an online translator.
Help please. Industrial structure photos suitable for backdrop.
Fellow Funsters,
I found just one photo online of a building that was free and no watermarks so far I could use to cut and paste inbetween 3d structures on my layout. Does anyone have any nice sources I could run through?
I'm looking for that straight on shot, without the perspective given by standing too close. Just so I can fill in gaps up to about 9" .. 3+ storeys too as it's industrial / warehouse of the 1940's.

Scratchbuild Home Plans?
I'm in need of 20+ homes for part of my layout and I've found a few near perfect matches for some of the homes in my prototype area, but I'll need more. I'm not in the least afraid of scratch building many of them, but before I start drafting my own plans, I was wondering if anyone has already done the leg work?
Architectural Details
I'm looking for N-Scale details to add to houses, such as cornices, turret tops, and the like. Things that would be found on mansions as decorative frills. Does anyone make things like that?
Also, if I want to make a wall of brick arches (similar to a viaduct) where can I find the curved brick arch that would normally be on the top of each arch? I've seen some from Britain but wanted something that was more readily available in 1:160 in the US.

Black fiber fill source found
A few months ago there was quite a bit of discussion here about possible sources for black fiber fill, commonly used to create nice spindly brush and undergrowth. None of the sources mentioned panned out for me at the time, but today I found this material in the Halloween section at a local Michael's art supply store. It's packaged as "Halloween Hay", and is sold in the Seasonal area. Bags about the size of a football are $1.99 each. A little goes a long way, so the three bags I bought will likely be a lifetime supply.
