Made some foam

HI all. I took the plunge on a RDA Delaney Iron kit. After building it I realized it screamed New England, That means Fall foliage. Being basically cheap I decided to make my own ground foam. an this is what I came up with on a little diorama. Comments and criticisms welcome

Dirt darkening when glued down

...So I've been experimenting using sifted dirt over the painted Sculptamold, using diluted white glue, then later spraying with diluted matte medium to seal it.  The problem is that the dirt is significantly darker after it's glued down.  I thought it might be the matte medium, so I left that off.  Then I thought that maybe it was the dilution of the glue, so I reduced the water until, finally, I was using just straight glue.  That seemed to help somewhat, but the glued-down dirt still has a mottled, darker-than-natural color.  What am I doing wrong?

I need help with using SMD LEDs

I want to use SMD LEDs, as shown below, To light a structure with a 12v DC power supply. I have NO information on how to wire these LEDs . I have used 3mm LEDs for loco lights so I do have some experience. I need information on polarity, why 3 contacts on each side, do they all need to be wired... I guess I need to know a lot.

A snow dusting test

did a small snow scene test on wet fusionfiber tinted with a mix of grey and brown.  trying for a heavy "dusting" look.

Place silfor tufts on fusion fiber then used strainer with Noch Snow.  No misting with wet water after adding snow. The track marks were made using a palette knife on the wet snow fusionfiber mix.  After drying the excess snow on tufts was blown off.

Looking for a truss bridge for O scale narrow gauge...

I'm in the process if designing a layout (construction was supposed to be almost done by now but the planning for the track design is taking much longer than I thought it would) and badly want a Pratt truss bridge like one of the ones on the ET&WNC:

I was told that the O scale Bachmann truss bridge kit was good but wasn't terribly happy with what I got.

Need help with roundhouse roof

As I'm creeping towards completion of my roundhouse I still have no good idea about the roof. What kind of roof should I use? What's prototypical for an American roundhouse and easy to model in N scale? Here is a picture of the structure in question as it looks today:

Plaster cloth at Hobby Lobby....a money saving tip

I've known for years that you could get plaster cloth cheaper than the Woodland Scenics stuff down at your LHS but those cheaper sources of supply aren't always convenient.  Today in our local Hobby Lobby I found the same size roll as the WS in another dept. besides hobbies. I forget where but I know it was in the same aisle as the candle making supplies.  Anyway, it was $2.50 cheaper than the  WS stuff about four or five aisles down in hobbies. With my trusty 40% off coupon, I got out of there with a roll for less than six bucks.

Alcohol Wash w/India Ink

Good evening.

I am trying to remember the India ink to alcohol ratio given in the past for a solution to be used as a go-to wash for all things on a layout. I remember there being two basic levels, sort of a 2 per cent or a 5 per cent type thing. Could anyone help on this?

Thanks,

Marxalot
