Backdrop painting - your opinion please

O.K. - please be honest and tell me what you think about this backdrop sample I painted earlier this morning.  I used cadmium yellow and mars black mixed to make the colors.  If using a computer you can click on the images to get a larger view.

For this first view I stuck it up behind the Buck & Loretta scenery.

For this next view I stuck it behind a siding on the opposite wall.

How to model a stream - a cheap way?

Hi to all, here how I made my little stream on the edge of a layout I built for a friend of mine.

First, you have to know I wanted to model a little creek close to a spring wetland. The layout is set in the Central California region.

Well, I guess the first step is to figure where the stream will be, just before starting to "create" mountains...

D&RGW Narrow Gauge Depot of Parlin, Co

Hello everybody,

I want to sratchbuild the depot of Parlin, Co from the D&RGW (narrow gauge). I have found a lot of pictures from the location and from the depot itself, but I don't have found not one single picture of the roadside of the depot. Do anybody knows, where I can find a picture from the roadside or a plan of the depot.

Thanks

Water creep in log pond

I need a log pond. Is there any technique that will prevent the plastic water from creeping up the logs and rocks and the shoreline? My only thought is to cut each log in half lengthwise and attach to surface of the dried water. If I did this then I could gloss the entire log at the dump end of the pond and the log coming up the rail to the mill should be wet all over. I tried searching but asking the right search question or getting the right search term is very elusive and often more difficult than the rest of the project. Blayne

EDIT: What does this scene need? - Modeling this scene (rice field)

Looking for ideas to model a rice field near harvest time. I don't necessarily need to model it being harvested as pictured, but more going for the color, height and texture. Lets hear some ideas!

East or West

Is it just my imagination or is it harder to find backdrop type photos of western buildings than eastern structures, but the opposite when it comes to rural photos?  Perhaps I am not looking in the right places online, but most flats, or background urban shots seem to feature eastern areas, whereas finding background shots of mountains or scenery is pretty even Stephen.

Taking Photos of a Tank Farm

Has anyone experienced harassment from the law or otherwise while taking photos of a tank farm? There's one near my house that I would like to use as a source for ideas for my N scale layout. However, after reading a bit about people being arrested for taking photos, I decided it's best to ask here first.

In case anyone is interested the tank farm is at latitude 33°54'39.38"N, longitude 84°16'25.30"W in Doraville, GA.
