Searching for a steam launch
My google-fu has proven woefully inadequate; has anyone seen any HO scale steam launches (circa 1880-1920) to be had, or things that can be converted into one. I have confidence in being able to make it look good--once I have a hull! (Making a hull is beyond my current abilities...) I would prefer a waterline model, but could have it on blocks if I can only get a full hull one--or file it down.
N Scale Wheat Field
I've been looking for something that I can use as a wheat field but so far I've come up blank. I've tried the cut-up wig cigar roll but that seems to make great grass clumps but not upright wheat stalks. And so far there hasn't been any ready-made mats I've found. Anyone have some insights into making an N-Scale field?
I did find Busch HO 1204 Wheat Field. Would that be too tall for N-scale use?
fiber optic lighting sources
Does anybody here use fiber optic lights on there layouts, and if so, where did you purchase it from???
I have tried to source some locally, but I have struck out completly. I have n scale and some of the sizes I have seen looks like it would work out really well for street lights and maybe even headlights in cars.
Deburring/polishing Metal Castings
I just purchased a Woodland Scenics kit composed entirely of metal castings. Some of the parts are quite rough and will need extensive filing. Then while watching "How It's Made" on TV, I see that manufacturers place metal parts in tubs with ceramic stones to deburr and polish them. I began to wonder if I could place the metal castings in a can of fine sand and agitate them to accomplish the same thing or do you think it would be too much? I thought of a can of fine sand agitated by an orbital sander. The soil in my back yard is very sandy, finer than beach sand.
Photos of 1950's Plywood Manufacturing Plant Buildings
I model the transition period, 1940's & 1950's in N-scale. I need to scratch-build or kit-bash a plywood manufacturing plant building of that period. I've not been successful in finding photos of such plants.
Can anyone suggest a source of such photos?
Thank you for your help,
Bob
1920's airplanes--any idea where to find them?
I would love to find some sort of 1920's airplane in HO scale--has anyone ever seen anything like that, ir is that a (FAR future) scratch build project?
road and street width
Does anyone know how wide a normal two lane road should be for my late 50's era railroad??? What I have allotted right now doesn't look correct to me.
Also how about the width of a street in town??
I dont care if I get it in inches or scale feet, I just need something to go on to make it all look right.
