I need ideas how to cover seam for modules in river bed base

There are several rivers and creeks that will span over the seams of my modular/sectional benchwork.  The idea/principle is this benchwork design allows for  if and when the time comes to relocate these modules/sections to a new location without the need to rip out previously completed work.

The issue I am running into is how best to prepare for the seems where there is a riverbed bottom.  How do I cover that seem?

The color of Engine houses

I have started to scratch build the engine house at Thurmond WV to scale.

I have made all the sides the interior details (mostly) from pictures I have found on the net. Before I put all the windows in I need to paint the exterior sides before construction.

As there are no color pictures of the engine house or any that I can find of other C & O engine houses, has anyone any idea of the color, I believe it is some kind of red?!!

Thanks to anyone that can assist

Grain elevator diorama

After lurking and marvelling at the fantastic modeling shown here for quite a while, I think it is only fair to contribute a little myself.

Small Detail Parts for Park Scene

Presently trying to finish up a park or playground scene in HO and was trying to find some small detail parts. Anyone know where I can get a small airplane to simulate an R/C plane? The closest thing I could find in Walthers was something listed from Alloy Forms as a Brass Airplane Hood Ornament, but of course no picture and no pic on the company website.

Building from a painting?

I'm wanting to try something really ambitious (at least for me).  I want to try to recreate in N scale Norman Rockwell's "Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas" for an Ntrak module.  I have permission from the Norman Rockwell Foundation to try, but I've never tried to scratchbuild from a photo or in this case - a painting.

Anyone have some suggestions?

Epoxy Resin water

I made this inlet in the layout's early days. It was a very enjoyable project and I thought I'd post some photos of how I went about it.

I used Glasscoat  two-part epoxy resin for the water   http://glasscoat.com.au/

I think it must be very similar to Envirotex Lite. It has no odour and is quite pleasant to work with.

Lesson learned: Backdrop

I am building a switching layout in three 4-foot sections so that it could be taken apart and moved if necessary. This is the first time I have built a backdrop, so it was a bit of a learning experience. I used the usual 1/8 inch hardboard in 24" x 48" pieces mounted on 1" x 2" lumber.

Walthers Part # 433-8314 crossing gate

I bought this used on EBay as part of a 'lot' sale.  There seems to be linkage missing. Anyone have any details on what the linkage should look like.  I know that when the train passes, it depressed the 'wood section in the track.  This in turn pushes an arm up.  I'm missing the connection to make the gate go down.  Please help.  See attached photo.  thanks
