Scale sizes

Hi all

I want to try some scratchbuilding in N scale. Since I'm used to the metric system I'm a bit confused about inch scale sizes you are using.

As N scale is almost 50% of H0 scale, is it safe to asume that a H0 scale 2x4 in N scale a 1x2 is? Or am I wrong?

Regards,

Rob

Atlas Through Truss Bridge kitbash

Hey gang,

I bought one of those "American prototype" Atlas through truss bridges many years ago after they first hit the market. If you will recall, these where a change from the ones manufactured by Roco that they used to market. It is not bad for what it is, but still has a whole lot of short comings.

Over the years, I have tinkered with this thing by beefing up the truss girders with Plastruct styrene. It started looking better, but then it became clear that the deck just did not look great. So, I rebuilt it too. Now, it looks fairly convincing.

How useful is a dremel tool?

Hello,

Sometime in the next year I'm hoping to start tackling this building (http://www.flickr.com/photos/5632/6288237868/in/pool-1793636@N21/)  With my birthday and Christmas coming up I was considering asking my family for a dremel tool.  I figured it would help with cutting all those large windows.   Do you have any advice when it comes to purchasing a dremel tool?  Would that be the best way to cut all those large windows?

Thanks a bunch!

Sealing Wood Kit

Before constructing wood kits I've heard it's a good idea to seal the pieces to prevent warping.

Can you use dull cote for this or is a primer recommended? If a primer is the best way to go, what type is recommended?

Road markings

I understand that the US used white road markings from the mid 50s to the mid 70s. What I do not know is

  1. how thick were these lines?
  2. on a broken center line, how long were the line segments, how long were the breaks?

I'm not even close to having roads on my layout but I'm trying to be prepared when I get there.

FSM MacKenzie Milling Company - Need Instructions

I bought an FSM MacKenzie Milling Company kit. It has no instructions but the rest of the kit is complete. I was able to get the kit cheaper because the instructions are missing.

Does anyone you has already built the kit have a set of instructions for the MacKenzie Milling Company that they will sell me?

Or would someone be willing to copy the instructions for me if I can’t buy a set of the instructions?

Contact me offlist at jerrybn@gmail.com

Thanks.

Source for photos or drawings of structures

Are there any sites that have dimensioned photos or drawings for building and other 'structures'?  For instance, I'd like to build a ski lift gondola, so I need some basic dim's.
