Track and electrical/DCC

Electrofrog

It seems to be harder to get electrofrog turnouts.

What is the most convient way to convert DCC friendly (insulfrog) turnouts to electrofrog and have the frogs wired up for electrical conductivity, with DCC decoder operation.

ABS signal recommendations

Im looking to install an ABS signal system. I want something that is not too complicated, since im really not a computer expert. I was looking at the ABS system NJ International has, but im not sure optic sensors is the best way to go.

Any suggestions?

Ballasting

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s1OiQJ1kws

Hi Everyone,

I found this video of this installing ballast on his Marklin track. He really is very talented on how he does it. So meticulous and he looks for the perfection in doing so. He is one the modelers that understand that the track is really part of the scenery. I hope you enjoy it.

Which solder should I be using for my model railroad electrical/electronic needs?

I am about to start a layout.  I have been stocking up the things I need; engines, rolling stock, tracks, etc.  I have read and appreciated all the information presented here in the MRH site.  I realize that I will be needing to do some (a bunch) of soldering.  My question to you seasoned model railroaders is .... which solder should I be using for my railroad? What gage, what mix etc.

Thank You All,

Help Me Choose the best candidates

I'm going DCC.  I have the NCE Powercab and am getting ready to install my first decoders.

I have two small wired decoders, a Digitrax DZ126-T  (t for tiny I'm told) and a NCE Z14SR which is larger but still pretty small.

I've looked through my drawers of engines and selected six I think are pretty good runners and may be good candidates for my first time.

DCC uncoupler

Has anyone tried the DCC uncoupler conversion kit for HO scale offered by Precimodels in Switzerland?

I have the link but rather not post it. You can Google it easily enough.

Looks quite interesting.

N scale, running an analog engine on DCC

So I've been around long enough to see many run engines in analog DC without decoder on a DCC layout, both HO and N.  But I ran across this video which suggests - in N scale - one shouldn't run an analog engine without a decoder on a DCC layout.  The chap in the video burned out an engine in 10 seconds running an engine without a decoder.  So what is your experience and opinion on this video?

Using an NCE EB1 Circuit Breaker

I've got a point-to-point layout broken into 4 power areas. I've got a Power Pro 5 which is enough to handle all the switching. My question is setting up the EB1 circuit breakers. I've attached a diagram on how it seems you set them up. The instructions from NCE discuss setting up one, not multiple.

Control Panel Wiring

Hey all,

I just finished putting together a short..... well 8min, video on how I wired my control panel for the modular layout I'm building.

I'm slowly making progress on the layout but I'll be moving house soon so I will have to put the building on hold for a month or two while we move! I'm glad its modular, makes it very easy to move.

I hope you enjoy the video, it's a "how-to" type video but please comment on how I could make improvements, I'm still very new so I could do with all the advice I can get.
