Many thanks!

tsunami tsu-1000 digital sound decoder lighting

Hey All,

I have a tsunami tsu-1000 digital sound decoder that I will be installing and I don't know enough about this to figure out what raiting LEDs and resistors I need.

Here are the decoder raitings:

Motor Stall Current: 1 Amp Max

Function Current: 100mA

Track Voltage: 27 Volts Max

Thanks in advance.

Run aways after about a hour

I have been having an issue with run away locomotives after running about an hour.

Then usually after a few minutes I gain control back.

My layout is basically two return loops with a siding between them. Each return loop has a passing siding in it with auto reversers on each track.

Getting ballast to stay on the side of trackbed

For the first time, I am using Woodlands Scenic foam track bed. I am currently ballasting it (or trying) using WS Cinders. I am OK with normal ballasting techniques as I have used them many times - PVA wood glue diluted with a touch of detergent and spraying it on. This doesn't work with the sloping sides as the cinders won't stay.

So I tried the following: I brushed neat PVA onto the slopes and then dribbled the cinders on. I left it to dry and then ballasted the rest. They then got their soaking.

Off the shelf HO scale Turnouts

Just wondering what people are using these days for off the shelf Ho scale Turnouts?

Personally I like Peco because of how smooth they are to operate and how positive the switch points are selected. I was using Atlas for years but I find the point rails were always sloppy. I think that the price for a peco is not far off from what other MFG have yet the quality is way better?

Opinions?

Removing old ballast and glue

I have a couple of Peco turnouts that I want to reuse. There is some glue and ballast on them. Aside from picking it off with a screwdriver, is there anything I can soak them in to release the glue. I have thought of water, alcohol or vinegar but wondering if anyone has tried any of the above.

Question on JMRI Working With Tablets

My 5 year old Windows 7 laptop has decided it doesn't want to work any longer.  I'm pretty sure it's not worth repairing, and I've been wanting to replace it with a Tablet anyway.  So now, I'm looking for a Tablet.  Of course, this new Tablet must be perfect in every way wink

I have two key requirements.

Diesel Sound Decoder

Is there a clear winner in the sound decoder world? I am looking to install sound in 2 Proto 2000 (pre walthers) GP30s. I am concerned about the BEST sound rather than price. I know I want 16 bit over 8 bit. I am just wondering what others think or reccomend.

This might be like asking what is the best beer. Everyone has different tastes and everyone has an opinion they are entitled to. It's like asking what is the best DCC system. I worried over that one for years and finally went with NCE. Not even sure why.
