Laying track in groups and getting it all straight

Starting to lay track on my new layout. I started with some track that is in the back in an area that will not be seen from the end. See the attached diagram for reference. Not to scale.

1) The black section was laid first. I put in the turnouts and the flextrack in between (3 total pieces). Things were centered on the line in the cork and I used a straight edge and track-straighening tool to make sure things were straight. This was attached with caulk.

Solder corrosion

So, a friend of mine did several track joints a few weeks back and apparently he forgot to clean a few of them because they are now nice and green. Can he just go back with some alcohol and a wire brush and clean that corrosion off and everything will be good, or do I, er, I mean, does he, have to do anything else?

Wire stapler, love it or hate it?

I'm getting ready to start wiring, yuck. Thinking of stapling my bus wires to the bottom of my 3/4" plywood. Anybody been down this road? Good idea, bad idea? I need to buy a wire stapler, suggestions?

Thanks

Randy

Infra-red detectors

Hi all,

I'm working on a project that requires an infra-red emitter/sensor set. This is the first time I've used such hardware, and I was hoping for some free advice as to which components to use, and how to use them. The detectors are for a speed calculator, and I'd like something than can be mounted beside the rails (Such as in an equipment box).

Thanks,

CFNR 501

Straightening ME Flex-track

With the current layout I'm building, I'm using ME track. I'm having a hard time straightening this stuff out. It's code 83. It is usually fairly straight when it arrives but by the time it's unpacked, moved, measured, painted, cut, cleaned, etc., it's no longer straight. I have a few tools to help; things to run along the top (10") and a piece of metal that runs along inside and some wooden pieces from Fast Tracks.

Touch Toggles

Not sure this is the best forum for this so feel free to move.  I recently came across the Berrett Hill Touch Toggle system and was curious what people thought.

Power Districts, Boosters, and Buses, oh my...

Well, I have put it off as long as I can. I am almost to the point that I have to start doing wiring. So, I am starting to try to figure out how to divide things into power districts, how many boosters to use, and exactly where to run the main bus wires. This is the lower level staging:
