cables/plugs for connecting remote control box?

Due to the limited size of our portable layout I have built a control box that will plug into the main layout for operation.

Improving Code 83 Atlas Turnouts

Has anyone tried to improve the look of HO scale Atlas Code 83 custom-line and super-track turnouts by removing the plastic over the frog and electrically isolating it with separate power for DCC?

I have both custom-line and super-track #6s on my layout and I'm no longer a fan of the plastic looking frog. As far as I can tell there is metal rail under the plastic as there is a slight change in elevation over the frog due to the plastic coating.

Magnet interference with DCC signal

I am building a swinging gate for my setup which runs on DCC. I have to get power from the bus to the tracks that are on the top of the gate.  I want the power automatically provided and shutoff when the gate closes and opens.

In order to connect from the bus to the track that is on the gate, I would like to use the kind of magnet latches that are used to keep cabinet doors closed.

Spruce up a boring turntable

Hey everyone, I have a Atlas N scale turntable that is well sort of bland.  How can I make it look like some of the high dollar ones out there?  I did a search and saw some pictures of cool turntables but don't know where to start or even get the materials.

Atlas Snap Relays

Hi All,

Just a quick question, I have just replaced 10 Atlas #6 custom-line turnouts and 10 Snap relays and together they are working fine through DPDT toggle switches.

Installing a capacitor to a Passenger car Led light so it stays lit over intermittent power loss

I have a Walthers Santa Fe super Chief Observation car that I would like to illuminate the rear Drum . Power will come from the cars trucks.  Could someone please advise me on how to add a capacitor to the Led so that it will not flicker? The LED being used has a resistor prewired for 12-16V use.The capacitor I have to use was removed from a TCS wow sound decoder ( I added a keep alive to it)

I have never done this mod to any of my lights but hope this will work

thanks for any help

gauge issue with Microengineering code 70 turnout

I have one of my Micro Engineering code 70 turnouts that has a very tight gauge through the area wher the points are.  It appears that the rail in this area has come loose from the ties and flexes inwards.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how best to fix this?  The actual switch is (of course) soldered into its location so will likely have to come out unless someone has a suggestion on how to do the fix in place.  Any help appreciated.

DT400 died

Hello all. Looking for suggestions. I have a DT400 and a UT4 throttle. My DT400 has apparently died as the display only shows square boxes now. Yes I could probabaly send the DT400 to Digitrax and they will fix it for a nominal fee even though its at least 10 years old, and probably older.  I can still use the UT4 as I only have 1 locomotive and thats all I plan on having. But the UT4 does not allow you to turn track power on and off.

So I don't need another Super Throttle but I do need a way to turn track power on and off. Any suggestions from anyone??

Resistors for turnout LED's

Hi All,

Would anyone be able to tell me which way to connect a resistor for 5mm 12 VDC LED's.

I have 14 turnouts and I want to install the LED's for turnout direction. I will be using an old DC controller that has fixed 22 VDC and 18 VAC for the turnouts. Now apparently I can use 1000 ohm 1/4 watt resistors to reduce the voltage down to 12 VDC, but what I would like to know is:

NCE Decoder Problem

To All: Anyone out there know what causes and how to solve a decoder only allowing the locomotive to run in only one direction regardless which way the direction switch is set on the controller. The other locos I installed the NCE decoders in run in both directions. Any suggestions are appreciated.  Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group
