Double Main Tracks to Single Main Track Free Mo Module - Signaling, Control, and Operation

Hi everyone,

I am doing a small shelf layout but wanted to experiment with signaling. I plan to do a free mo module (3' long) modeling a location just a mile or two east of Kandiyohi, Minnesota. It is now BNSF, but was originally Great Northern. It is CTC-operated and is set up with two main tracks (operation in both directions) converging into a single main track. My question has several parts:

Programming Loco address with Digitrax

I have a new loco, with sound, no clue of its origin. When I try to program its address, the loco talks to me. It says, "CV One Eight 7 6 2 4".  7624 is the address I'm trying to program. However, it doesn't change the address, still responds to address 3. The system is set for four digit addresses, and I have several of those already programmed.

Whatsamattame?

Thanks

Randy

Speed matching locos - which CV's?

I have two locos that I want to speed match, but I am not sure which CV's to adjust.  Both locos start moving at the same time.  The first loco is faster than the second unit at slower speeds, but as the speed increases they get closer in pace, but the first loco remains just a bit faster than the second.

Which CV should I modify to adjust the rate of speed at lower speeds?

Which CV should I modify to adjust the higher speeds so they move at the same pace?

Fast tracks items I need?

I'm getting the fast tracks #6 jig but I'd like to know what tools those of you who have used fast tracks suggest I get? Do I need point form tool and stock aid? Can I do it without one of those? Also I'd like to get a large spool of solder, what kind do I use? And is there something I can use other than thier cement? Like lockTight?

Ciutting and Etching Copper Circuit boards? WAS Has Anyone used Peroxide and Muriatic Acid to etch Circuit Boards

Original Post:

There are some electornic projects I'm thinking of doing for the Pennsylvania & Allegheny.  Some are for DCC but others are for LCC (NOTE TO MODERATOR: Perhaps it should be considered to expand this category to include all Model RR Electronics as well as LCC!).

Will this circuit work for a NCE Throttle Low Bat Light?

I would like to add a low battery light to my NCE throttlws and am wondering if this circuit would work.  I found it online but am not sure whether I should use it or not:

Also, I have a question.  Can I use the Cab Bus Connectoin for connecting a power charger to recharge the rechargable batteries I plan on using with these throttles?

Problem with Heljan/Walthers DCC Turntable

Hi there. I have a Heljan/Walthers HO/DCC turntable code 89121. It has been in storage for about 12 months. I took it out today and connected it into my new layout. It calibrates fine but when I try and program it, I get an ERR 1.

The manual says that "There is no contact to the bridge. Please try to clean the contacts as described. Please also check the wire-connection."

Digitrax DB150 Question

I am trying to find out what the CONFIG A and CONFIG B inputs are for on the front panel of the DB150.  The manual isn't much help or doesn't seem to be.

Thanks in advance,
Al

The sound of the train, not just the locomotive

I live on the old IC, now CN mainline.  The tracks are about 100 yards east of my house.  Yesterday my wife and I were working out in the yard when the Sunday local stopped to drop off some cars at the grain elevator just down the road.  The air was filled with the usual sounds of a freight train and my wife asked about them.  She said she had never paid attention before.  So we listened as the brakes squealed and the slack ran in as the train stopped.  There are a lot of sounds audible from a few hundred yards away (distance to the grain elevator) as the crew

6 mobile decoders have been fried in the last 6 weeks

The club I belong to has fried 6 locomotive decoders in about the past six weeks.  We are not sure what is causing the problem.  The CVP Easy DCC system we have has been in use for around two years without a problem. It appears that the decoders have been subjected to voltage spikes.  I have check the power supply multiple times and it is always around 19.6 V AC with no load.  It is rated for 18 V AC.

Any ideas what could be the problem?  What addition information should I provide?
