Sucessful LokSound (Rapido) install

Well, I just finished programming my first ESU LokSound decoder install. It is a LokSound Select with a sound file created and installed by Rapido Trains for an F unit. Rapido sells these at a great price and they include an iPhone 4 style speaker. I have to say it sounds amazing. I am installing this for a friend and he wanted it loud. When he heard my Tsunami sound equipped loco he immediately asked for more volume, so volume I gave him and this thing has it in spades.

Digitrax/Rr-cirkits signaling

I am looking for some feedback on the digitrax and rr cirkits signalling products, I prefer induction for detection so that's why I mention rr cirkits over digitrax diode method.

What I am looking to do is have two ctc islands on opposite ends of my layout, it comes out to around 10 detection blocks and the need to control a set of double set crossovers and a few other switches but are all in the same cp. Eventually I'd like to ctc the whole layout which is a combination of single and double track ctc in a 28x64 ft space.

Frequencies

OK, you all think battery trains are kids toys.  Well, look at Marklin.  They have 3 battery trains.  I have had all the electric trains and scales. With Marklin ho scale battery trains I will now build a wireless....more portable layout.   They have hand held remotes.  They are ho scale.  And you can run 2 each at a different frequency.......Just the same as DCC control. OK, now that I have knocked DCC, I have a question for DCC experts:.

Scotchlok IDC question

Can the IDC 905 low voltage (automotive) connectors be used to connect bus wires to feeder wires?  Or should 558 connectors be used?  I'm using a 14 AWG bus and a 20 AWG feeder.  The 905 works with both wire sizes but the 558 only accepts 16-22 AWG.

Code 55 or code 70 - some thoughts and advice?

HI Guys,

I have been pondering for a while as i usually do. A few years ago i modeled hon3 using code 55. Just a small switching layout that didn't see much use. At the time i have code 55 jigs for fast tracks.

Im now on my way to a new HO 20 ft x 15 ft double deck layout. Since im waiting on the purpose built layout room i have a lot of preparation time. One deck was to be all code 55 as it is a logging line. the lower being a branch line i figured would be code 70 or code 83.

Crew-Controlled Traffic Signals?

I want to signalize one of my railroad crossings where traffic has difficult visibility.  My first thought was to simply install crossing signals.  However, then I found a prototype example where I live of a crossing that is controlled by a signal, with the railroad getting a signal one direction and traffic the other.  I like this better for a few reasons.

Speed Matching

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking for an expert on speed matching diesel locos on jmri in Oregon...like someone who runs a business doing dcc stuff. I'm a little weary of my friends trying to speed match my locos with marginal results. I want my trains to "run like a dream" but I need some help from a professional.

As I mentioned I live in Oregon (Central) and I would be willing to travel a reasonable distance for it. I would prefer to not ship all my locos in order to keep the cost down.

NCE PowerCab rebooting

I have my programming track setup to use the PowerCab as it comes out of the box so I can use DecoderPro with my locomotives. But when I use it now the cab just constantly reboots (there is not a short on the programming track). However, my main part of my layout is on an NCE SB5 which I can plug my PowerCab into and have absolutely no problems controlling trains.

So is there something physically wrong with the PowerCab that I need to send it in for repair or is there a setting or soemething wrong in the cab and is there a way to reset the cab.

2 Rail O scale SD35 project (Newer Models Better performance)

Hello,

Taking on an upgrade project and need confirmation of my suspicions.

This is a 2 rail Atlas O SD35 . (The weathering is a work in progress, and can be easily changed smiley)

Project details to follow.
